k4b4l74 and 5482741, both your bios are UEFI Phoenix Trusted Core, made to work with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.

5482741, I know you already tried that, however your Bios is the same type as the OCZ 0.28 Bios, so with some more research, I maybe able figure how to get XTU working for you and k4b4l74.

Have ether of you ever tried to boot to an EFI Shell?

I think your Bios supports it, if I'm correct, you maybe able to boot to a Shell and Load the Module needed for XTU then Boot Windows and XTU will work, but I have to find the Module in the OCZ Bios first.

Moral_Hazard, it's not a Trusted Core Bios, if you can find a Bios editing tool for it, I maybe able to check it.

EDIT:k4b4l74 and 5482741, I missed before that the OCZ Bios can select Multipliers in Bios ( Without XTU ), so you maybe able to set NVRAM Token's too.

Make a DOS Boot Disk( Must be pure DOS, not a DOS box in Windows ).

Download Symcmos and copy it to your Dos Disk.

View attachment OCZ.zip Download this, unzip it and Place the Files: Nodes.rom and Strings.rom (Not the OCZ Folder) on your DOS Disk.

    Boot DOS and type:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -C
This will combine the two files in regions for symcmos to map out. It creates a file called combine.rom

    Then type:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -Fcombine.rom -Ssymbol.txt >symbol_.txt
The ">sysmbol_.txt" is going dump/pipe the screen output into a text file.

    Last type:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -Lliteral.txt
    Reboot ( Ctrl+Alt+Del )

Upload these two files from the Dos Disk. ( symbol.txt literal.txt )

Hey Darth, mine (8530w) supports UEFI boot too, does that mean I can try this too? I also still need to try that other thing too, hopefully tonight I will have some more spare time.

Stumo, I think your bios is Insyde UEFI, I'll have to look into the Tools to Decompress and Decode.

I know there are some tools for Insyde, as I remember reading about some users removing the "PCI Whitelist", so if you do some research and find the tools to Decompress the "Bios" that will save some time.

k4b4l74 and 5482741, looks like token 0x27C is one for your Bios, writing the value maybe all that is needed, Sysmcmos can to it easy, I'll update you when you upload the .txt files.

From the OCZ Bios via Symcmos:

    Code:
     Advanced
          Processor_Multiplier_State

             ( token 0x27C start 0x10B width 0x4 )
             ( maximum 0xF default 0x1 PICK_FIELD )
                = [0] 6
                =* [1] 6.5
                = [2] 7
                = [3] 7.5
                = [4] 8
                = [5] 8.5
                = [6] 9
                = [7] 9.5
                = [8] 10
                = [9] 10.5
                = [A] 11
                = [B] 11.5
                = [C] 12
                = [D] 12.5
                = [E] 13
                = [F] 13.5

Damn sorry i made a mistake: I have a secureCore phoenix bios and not a trustedCore phoenix bios.

    When i type: symcmos -v2 -Fcombine.rom -Ssymbol.txt >symbol_.txt
    It's never finishing :( (running since 15min)

    Code:
    C:\> symcmos -v2 -Fcombine.rom -Ssymbol.txt >symbol_.txt
    _
Does it takes so long ?

Is this at all possible with an AMI (American Megatrends) bios?

Ok, so your files (.rom of ocz) do not work on my computer because it's a secure core instead of trusted core.

    Anyway, secure core supports UEFI:

I can get only the literal

    From the file Symbol.txt:
    Code:
    Advanced
          Processor_Multiplier_State

             ( token 0x27C start 0x105 width 0x1 )
             ( maximum 0x1 default 0x0 PICK_FIELD )
                =* [0] 6
                = [1] 6.5
                = [2] 7
                = [3] 7.5
                = [4] 8
                = [5] 8.5
                = [6] 9
                = [7] 9.5
                = [8] 10
                = [9] 10.5
                = [A] 11
                = [B] 11.5
                = [C] 12
                = [D] 12.5
                = [E] 13
                = [F] 13.5
    And from literal.txt

    Code:
    (0279) [0000]
    (027C) [0000]
    (027F) [0001]
    So for 13.5x edit literal.txt

    Code:
    (0279) [0000]
    (027C) [000[COLOR="Red"]F[/COLOR]]
    (027F) [0001]
Note PELACE F with the Multiplier you want to try from the table in Symbol.txt
Save it as OC.txt to your DOS Disk, then Boot Dos and:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -Uoc.txt
SHUTDOWN<--Press the Power Botton not Restart.

    Boot.

Let me know how it works.

k4b4l74, it should work for you, try the:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -Lliteral.txt
Also what Dos are you using?

I made the change using Symcmos in DOS. What should I do to verify it worked?

I don't think it did, maximum 0x1 should be:

    maximum 0xFF

You could try open Literal.txt and add the line:

    Code:
    (04B9) [0000]
    (04CB) [0000]
    [COLOR="Red"](04C5) [000F][/COLOR]
    (04CE) [0001]
Save it as test.txt to your Dos Disk and:

    Code:
    symcmos -v2 -Utest.txt
Use MSR Tool to read MSR 0x198 to test.

    Alright, I added the "(04C5) [000F]" line.

Here's what MSR Tool reads at 0x198.

Ok i will try "symcmos -v2 -Lliteral.txt" but it's the symbol that do not work, not the literal ;)

Actually in my "literal.txt" (see 2 posts above), i do not have (027C) :/ entry

Ok this is with "symcmos -v2 -Lliteral.txt"

    Code:

    ( SYMBOLIC CMOS EDITOR - Version 643710-035 )

Sorry guy's, won't work, I made too many leaps and assumptions.

I'll have to go back and do more research, what I need is someone running OCZ 0.28 bios and someone with a Gateway Godzilla system, that would make things go a bit faster.

This is somewhat off topic, but I've been comparing my M860TU's BIOS to the M570TU's BIOS. The M570TU is basically the 17-inch version of the M860TU, they are mostly the same (ie: same PLL) except the M570TU allows BIOS overclocking. I've been using Phoenix BIOS Editor, seems like with some more experience and knowledge, I'll know if I'll be able to add the same options to the M860TU.

Hello i've got a Gateway godzilla system ;)
    I'm your man :D

Anyway, i can't open my BIOS (9C .17) in PBE 2.2.x ('NO BCP FOUND').
I follow this: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=8025 without success

IMV-035.ROM opens fine in PBE 2.2.1.3.

I'm going to say, your Bios and the OCZ 0.28 are very close to the same, I'd edit the OCZ Bios and cross flash it.

    Code:
    ACPI00.AML
    ACPI01.BIN
    ACPI02.BIN
    ACPI03.ROM
    ACPI04.ROM
    DISPLAY00.ROM
    OPROM00.ROM
    OPROM01.ROM
    OPROM02.ROM
I replaced these files from your Bios into the OCZ Bios and it did Build fine, some other stuff may need replaced too, but these HAVE to be.

Do you think there is a chance that a "cross mod" bios can work ?
If yes, it will be so great :D

I've been looking for a way to overclock my qx9300 in my Asus w90. This looks like valuable information... Now if i only knew what to do with it all :p

shouldn't there be BIOS overclocking options for W90? And if there isn't is there a custom BIOS or can't u use Intel extreme tuning utility to overclock the QX9300 in the W90?

If XTU doesn't work, you will probably have to mod the bios.

Can you give me a copy, I know a little bit about AMI.

Heres a rapidshare link for the latest bios off of Asus site.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/357918719/W90VP_ASUS_0702.zip.html\

I've tried intel xtu software that was linked earlier in this thread, just says it cant find xtu service or something along those lines. No bios overclocking options in the bios and I've already had someone check the older bios' for hidden options/menus.

    What CPU do you have?

There is a chance we might be able to add an option "CPU ratio" which might work. Didn't work for my BIOS, but it might work for you.

It would be really hard to do though, but we could start a thread here:
    http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=52

I'll take a look this weekend and see if I can manage it myself, if not then hopefully somebody on that forum will be able to help.

moral hazard, would You be able to modify MSI BIOS to enable it for XTU, or to add multiplier change for extreme CPUs? I have MS-1722 ID1 with QX9300 and this laptop has AMI BIOS.

Marecki_clf, it's really hard for me to mod a BIOS.

Svet (from http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?board=51.0) modded my bios to add multiplier change for extreme CPUs, so ask him first.

It didn't work for me, probably because I dont have an extreme CPU installed. I will test it again later.

Anyway, if Svet wont do it for some reason, I can try, but I don't have a good chance of getting it right...

Yeah, bios modding usually fails. Even when a pro does it.

If at the end of the day your notebook still boots, you've got a good result.

Same here....not much information is shared online to allow enthusiasts to come up with amazing discoveries

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that Bios hackings should allow doing things that untill now are reserved for desktops (e.g. underclocking, overvolting, memory timing...)

You're right, those things are possible.

Svet from the MSI forums modded my BIOS and he added those options.

CPU VID and Ratio didn't show up though, but memory timings and frequency do work. And those options were not there before, not even hidden, I checked.

So far I am able to unhide options and change default values, but I can't understand how to add a new option and Svet wont tell me how...

The information shared though some of those tutorials (on rebelshaven) is VERY faint and hard to understand what exactly their doing. Like using an otherwise useless option and modifying it to do something else. I'd probably be able to understand it better if I was more of a software guy but I just cant seem to follow what it is their doing. Seems like nobody there wants to give away the "secrets" and they just kind of mod within their community.

Yes that's true, they are not very clear.

If anyone wants to reverse engineer what Svet did to my BIOS, I can give you the original bios and the modded bios, you can compare them with hex workshop. There is a big difference in the files.

It took svet over 10 hours to do it, with many test versions that didn't work.
So it's not an easy thing to do.

For some reason I have some hope that this thread will be successful eventually.

Like my other threads (PLL pin mod and DIY vidock), they start out with just some "wants" on my part and end with better results than even I could imagine.

Too bad I study finance instead of computer science or something along those lines :(

I'd be willing to donate some cash even to anyone who could get the multipliers working for my BIOS. I'm stuck with this rig for another year and a half or so, bumping up to 3.4 would be nice.

I'm using the F35 BIOS here. It needs to be opened with 7zip, otherwise it might try to autoinstall itself if you just run it.
