Is the HD80E a USB Based device? I may need to get a quad core laptop but all the new laptops don't have Express Card Slot; just USB 3.0
you can buy an ExpressCard to USB adapter for $20 but I was told it will only work if the express device is USB based
Does anyone know if the adapter will work and if the HD80E is USB Based?

Won't solve your problem, IF it works, I believe the Hd80e works on the pci bus.

One step at the time detroit :D

What you need are HD codecs/plugins ,in amarectv (did you download the extra codecs on the amarectv website ?) and other software like eq Virtualdub (tryed that ?)

I found this website from China, http://www.buybuyseller.com/hd80e-hd-video-converter-720p1080i-hdmi-input-express-card-p-19606.html

they give a sharp price for the Hd80e, and shipping is free US 123 and in Euro's 95. Shipping takes about 3-4 weeks....looks good.....

gamer33, can you please post the link to the codec downloads? I saw the option for that in Amarectv but it goes to a Chinese Web site
I hope those codecs have bit rate settings; right now my Amarectv records at a rate of 1-2, which is very low; normally 10-17 would be better
any reason why the quad core processor wouldn't solve the problem? provided that the expresscard to USB adapter works. right now my CPU shoots up into the 95% or more when you press record on any of the softwares

Hello detroit, this is the download page: This is English page
This is the codec install.exe link: http://amamaman.web.infoseek.co.jp/...k.co.jp/english/download/setup_amv300h_en.exe
I don't believe you can set bitrate, but perhaps these codecs are better. Perhaps you are right that a faster laptop would be better, but I don't know that, since I dont have the hd80e yet, and I would only use it for playing games, not capturing. You could also find out how other people record with capture cards using usb 3.0 in HD and what software/codecs they use. good luck.

Would I be able to use the HD80E in conjuction with an HDMI splitter to record gameplay on my laptop and play the game on my tv/monitor?

I just got a new laptop ( HP Elitebook) with i7 quad core processor and 8G memory and it is a little better than the dual core AMD on my other laptop and the CPU percentage only shows 15-20 compared to 95% on the AMD
The recordings are a little better BUT there is still some lag on the 1080 recordings with motion; especially football
    this new laptop has a nicer processor but it still does not eliminate the problem. I am wondering if anyone else has a solution to this;

I used Amarectv and installed one of the special codecs and this makes it work but the recording files are Huge; recording a 5 minute clip takes up 12G of space; bitrate is like 300, which is ridiculous; I can convert those files with bit rate of 15 and they look just as good and take up a fraction of the space
Now the problem is is I can't input those huge .avi files into tsmuxer or tsremux; both give errors when I do. I use other HD converter softwares to take the files down to 15 bitrate
But at least now the recordings are smoother. I will probably buy the codec since it is only $10; if not , there is a watermark on the bottom left of all recordings
anyone have any idea why tsmuxer and tsremux are giving errors when I input those recordings?

Juddy, they do accept Paypal, I believe that if you pay with paypal and they don't deliver the product or anything else goes wrong, you get your money back from paypal ?....correct me if I am wrong.

I emailed them and they respond quickly, but that is no guarantee.

@detroit, change the setttings of the codec....you're welcome :D

I just use Amarectv with hd80e thanks for recommending it's great and it's easier to setup. I just downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack Full 7.1.0 now i capture to divx and edit in sony vegas without have to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 and it dose not lag or stutter on me @detroit1 try installing K-Lite Codec Pack Full 7.1.0 here's a link http://www.cucusoft.com/codec.asp i could not watch my recordings back at first then installed this and now i can.

I have been using the amv code that I paid $10 for and it is also working good; I just have to be carefull how much I record at at time since 5 minutes will use up 12G of space so if you record 1 hour; 144G; that is Huge
Does that K-Lite coded give options in Amarectv to select and set bit rates?

Yes it dose let you pick the bit rate with a slider. divx will have a better compression rate that amv. I have not recorded long than a minute if I rember right it was like 1mb a second. So 5 minutes will be about 300mb give or take i think.

As above and the other guy on page 4 or 5, mine was working fine on my Win7 laptop for a week, I tried a few apps (including that NCH debut software) and then the next day it didn't work.

I have uninstalled, deleted the files, manually removed all registry entries, checked over all Directshow and directx filters, reinstalled sound and video, upgraded chipset drivers and the bloody thing won't go on the same laptop.

On an identical laptop, I ran graphedit and rendered the video pin... I cannot render the same pin when I stick it back into my laptop. I get messages about not finding any valid intermediate filter... blah blah, and the Honestech DVR software says it could not initialize the device etc. It's detected properly, and works in other laptops, but i'm at a total loss. I've googled and tried everything I can think of.

When it was working on my laptop, it was easy to set up and it recorded just fine at 720P.

Hey guys, I was about to pull the trigger on the HD80e until I saw gamer33's post on the AVerTV Express HD DVR and bought that instead on Amazon for $49.99 (plus 2 day prime shipping!). I bought the last one on Amazon, but they are available on Newegg as well.

Basically, I wanted to be able to record gameplay from my PS3, but since I only have my laptop with me, I needed something that would receive HD video.

The quality from the component input isn't as sharp as HDMI (normally, I hook my PS3 into my PC monitor via HDMI), but it's not terrible either (see video below - sorry for youtube compression :/). And, of course, 1080p is not supported (although since very, very few games on the PS3 run native 1080p this is not an issue for me). Input lag using the included Avermedia software isn't too bad either! While recording, the input lag gets to be a bit too much for games like BF3 multiplayer (you can see it takes a while for me to line up my shots in the video - I promise I'm not usually that terrible... ;), but for singleplayer games like Uncharted it works really well.

If you want something to record online gameplay from a fast-paced racing or shooting game, I would recommend you get a splitter and a separate screen for your console so that you can record on your machine without the lag. But if you're just looking to use your laptop screen for gaming, the Avermedia seems to work. Plus, (in the U.S. anyway), the Avermedia is about 1/3 of the cost of the hd80e with fast shipping from Amazon/Newegg.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. So happy that I can finally record footage from my PS3! Cheers guys, and thanks to people who posted in this thread for the information :)

Video (yes, this was captured on the Avermedia expresscard capture thingy):

Hello mangosango, thanks for sharing and for the nice video :) I play a lot of COD mw2 myself, but I also want to buy BF3 ;) I looked at the links you posted, the price of the AVerTV Express HD DVR has really dropped. I didn t buy the hd80e yet, I think the price is a bit too high for me, also if you import from china, you also have to pay customs, taxes etc....too much haslle for me, and I wonder if it makes a big difference with my easycap witch works just fine. perhaps the avertv express is a better and cheaper solution. Can you use the avertv with other software and does it work good (no lag) for playing shooters etc when you dont use it for recording ? Greetz

I had been using the HD80e HDMI input to record Directv HD for the last few months with no problem using Amarectv

Today I hooked it up to a Comcast HD DVR and I get sound but no picture in the software so I can’t record anything. The screen is just black but I can hear the sound

this is very strange because I assume Comcast is using the same HDCP, etc at Directv but I get a black screen
after that I hooked Directv HD back and that works fine

Can anyone let me know how to correct this?

Today I actually updated the driver on the HD80e and now the amarectv software is not working right; I am getting this message
can anyone let me know how to correct this?
Today, I had uninstall my capture card and then re install it and update the driver and now when I open amarectv is says:

    HRESULT = 8007001f

A device attached to this system is not functioning

    Code : MpMediacontrol - > Run

I tried a couple other recording softwares that I have and they worked fine after updating my driver but amarectv is giving this message and amarectv is a better software ; that’s why I use it to record

I hope someone knows to to correct this

Hey guys sorry for the late question here but i was wondering if blackmagic would work for me just to play my xbox 360 on my asus g74sx dh-71? I'm not worried about playing online because my internet is too slow. I just want to be able to play and save my progress. I'm not worried about recording either. Thanks

Do you have HDMI *INPUT* on your notebook? If not then there's no possible way to do it. I think only Alienware offered an HDMI input at one point, but I don't think they do anymore either.

Your only possible option is using a TV tuner card, but even then there will be significant lag/latency in controls and what's displayed on screen.
