Hey I have an HP DV4, with a Turion RM-72 proc.
On my last factory vista install, it had over 90 processes.
I got that down to 80 something.
I just installed Win 7 and maby a small handful of programs and I still have 57 processes running after disabling a couple.
My laptop runs the exact same temps as you on idle, when I play a game, even something like freecol, Red Alert 2, or Civ 4 Colonization my CPU gets way over 107 CELSIUS with my HDD North of 64c.
The air shooting out of the vent burns my hand id I hold it there for more than 1 second.
I've tried undervolting but didnt notice a major change.
I don't understand how if I leave my laptop on the battery saver power setting, flip it upside down (so the heat vents up) on a cold glass table, it can get over 60c idle, with utor running and nothing else. Utor isn't even thrashing the disk it's just seeding at 40k.
Something is up with the proc family, especially if your temps are the same as mine, and we use different notebooks.
Right now typing on here with the vents uncovered on power saver, I'm at 56c and my HDD is at 49c.
hell, I'd even be fine if my notebook maxed out at 80c, but 107 is way too much.
I have a feeling it's the graphics card also, I believe I have the same as you too.

Here. It's been down to 5C Lol. -
this might be a dumb question but how do u know what to turn off and what not to
-
Lol, well i just installed Vista Ultimate 64 Bit on my laptop (still got the original OS installed) got fewer processes but temps are around 70C. what gives?
-
Im not sure if I said this already or not, but I had some bugs with a driver once that wouldn't make the gpu go to 3d-performance mode. The performance was really crappy.
Cpu/Gpu temps on a laptop are good if they are ~50-75, OK range is 75-89 and above 90 is bad, generally. So don't stress about those temps. There's something else that we've all missed so far, if the performance is really bad still. It shouldn't be that bad. -
i love my XP PRO with all kinds of add ons
40 processes and it zooms -
-
I noticed the processor has gone high as 85C when installing large programs. Definitely not normal. Does anyone else have any experience with things like this?
-
Again, I don't think your bad performance is heat related if all games perform badly right away (heat throttling would not occur right away, takes time to build up). You CPU isn't that hot, undervolt it some and it's ok.
-
Hmm how would i do that? and would it decrease performance?
Also would one of those laptop cooler things work well? -
Also 75C on Idle is a joke.
-
Yeah, its a bit high. Mine was ~79 full load before undervolting, now it's ~72. You can find the undervolt thread here on hardware forum.

hmm i'd like to try updating my bios first. if i ever find a 64 bit file
-
Hi does anyone know where i might be able to find a 64 bit version BIOS upgrade for my laptop (acer aspire 6530G) ?
i tried the acer support site and they only have a 32 bit version and it wont work. -
As far as I know, the bios file itself doesn't care what version of windows you are using, but a bios updater program might. Try finding a flash or dos version of the program and try with that.
-
I had this same problem before when I had my aspire 5102. I was running vista x64 and I couldn't flash the BIOS because the version of winflash that acer was using only worked under 32bit versions of windows. So what I did was I made a bootable usb flash drive and then copied the bios files onto it and then restarted. I then set the notebook to boot to the usb drive which then gave me a command prompt, then I flashed the bios from there.
Unfortunately I can't remember the exact BIOS files you need to use right now... -
Found this. http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm
-
-
Did you try that "Method 2" on an usb flash stick ? Hope that at least is simple enough
-
Cant i just put the bios install file on a USB and boot from it?
-
Won't boot with just the file, your computer needs some specific files to tell it that this thing is bootable, plus some files to actually do the flash with. Try the method 2, at least.
-
see my sig
-
Lol now my flash drive is giving me problems. Can i use an SD card instead?
-
If you want to run COD4 with a minimal decent setting, it has something more to do with your graphics card memory, my system that had a 256mb could run my COD4 in 800X600 and gave me no lags in the servers, giving me good stats and game performance...
-
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 with up to 1791 MB HyperMemory...
-
How new is your computer? Would it be a bad idea to wipe the HDD clean? Do a fresh install?
-
-
need to check and see what board chipset etc u have to determine what processor u can go up to i have the rm-7 in my dv7-1135nr and mine will upgrade to a zm-86,which i am gonna do when i get the money to do so.
-
Have you ran 3dmark06 or such ? Are the scores you're getting anywhere near what a 3650 should get ? ( http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3650.8839.0.html)
If it doesn't and you've 100% surely installed everything correctly needed like chipset drivers, directx, 3d drivers.. then there's something wrong with the machine and you should get it RMA'd ? -
That card is roughly the same as my 9500M GS.. and it runs cod4 like a charm with decent graphics.
-
Yeah tried it. But just like everything else. It doesn't work. Figures.
-
That's 3dmark06 ? Not overclocked and with stock drivers sounds about right.. hmmh.
-
Yeah. Weird.
-
Big, I see you have the 5315-2153 laptop, the same one I have. This may be a stupid question, but mine has the celeron m processor @ 1733 Mhz. Can I upgrade the processor to what you have or better? Thanks for your patience.
Replacing laptop processor.
