Anandtech is down at the moment, but I was reading up on the Western Digital Silicon Edge SSD because I thought that's what was coming in my Envy 14, seems it will be the Samsung. Either way, they had a great article comparing the C300 and Intel X25-M and several others and seems the C300 is the way to go. I'll link later when site is back up.

i just got the 160gb intel g2 for $75, but do you guys think i should return it and wait for the g3?
(this is not a brag post btw. 100% legit question. i would much rather save the $75 and use it towards the g3 if it will be worth the wait) -
I'll buy it for 200$
-
Sell it on eBay for profit-
-
Sounds too good to be true.I wouldn`t touch it with a bargepole!

Who in the world would sell that drive that cheaply
Id take 10 for that price point and call it a day -

CrystalDiskInfo will do. -
The C300 is a great drive but Anand runs his benchmarks on a desktop with SATA 3 controller. See here. Current laptops come with SATA 2 controller.
As Brian of Storagereview said:It seems that Sandforce is the better choice for current laptops.

It's a very a good price. It may be a G1 at that price. If it's a G2 it's a great deal. It's just that G2 is expected to be replaced soon... -
Won it on Ebay, it's brand new sealed in the retail box still and pretty sure it's the G2.Phil said: ↑where can you get a Intel G2 160GB for $310? Is it second hand?

Yeah that's a G2 sealed in box for $300. Great deal.
If I were you I'd use that for a while and see what the SSD landscape looks like later this year. -
Ok thx for the input/advice, really appreciate it. I was thinking the same thing. I kind of want to have an SSD now so I'll just trade/upgrade later if need be.Phil said: ↑Yeah that's a G2 sealed in box for $300. Great deal.

Performance of a 160GB G2 is still great. It will be a huge upgrade from your HDD.Philthy84 said: ↑Ok thx for the input/advice, really appreciate it. I was thinking the same thing. I kind of want to have an SSD now so I'll just trade/upgrade later if need be.Click to expand...

Yes...I have one in my dell precision m6500....the machine is blazingly fast...I'll never have a desire to change it out unless it really slows down but I'm trying to maintain it properly. Maybe a new SSD would take it from a blink of the eye, to 2/3 of a blink.....Phil said: ↑Performance of a 160GB G2 is still great. It will be a huge upgrade from your HDD.Click to expand...

I'd advise people to be very careful though. The fact that you paid $ 75 for a 160gb Intel G2 for $75 sounds suspicious. Nothing personal but that price is way too low. -

FWIW I got the OEM version so it didn't come with the desktop bracket.
Once it comes (being mailed to me now) can I post pictures here so you guys can confirm it's a legit drive? -
Wow, was it from an auction on ebay?wasabi. said: ↑Repped! Thanks for the advice!

Where did you buy it Wasabi?
At that price I would test it to make sure there's nothing wrong with it. -
Uhh... Not sure if anyone else has found this, but HOLY CRAP.

That looks like it uses regular RAM chips. As a matter of fact I recall seeing something like that, that did use RAM chips and only would work when powered on. But those must be like SLC RAM modules. Interesting idea.miahsoul said: ↑Uhh... Not sure if anyone else has found this, but HOLY CRAP.

Or you could save the trouble of Ebay OR Craiglist, which, at least here in the US, seems to have way more scams than Ebay
Sell it to a fine member of this Forum!

Still no love for 1.8" uSATA?
I'm surprised that few SSD makers are producing in this format. If needed, they can pair these drives with 1.8" to 2.5" adapters (as did Dane-elec with the Intel X18-M) to keep customers happy. -
I don't know if this is a mistake or the beginning of a price 'war' but the OCZ Agility 2 120Gb is going for 175 euros now in the Netherlands. It used to be 300 euros.

is this a good drive, i.e. comparable to the C300 I was having in mind to buy??
and doesn't sound like an error when 4 shops have it at under 200 € -
The C300 performs excellent when it's connected to the right (SATA 3) controller. Performance on a laptop can be a different story.

yeah i know, I read stuff earlier on this 3ad; but anyway has very good performance, better than the WD offer for example (I guess)Phil said: ↑The C300 performs excellent when it's connected to the right (SATA 3) controller. Performance on a laptop can be a different story.

I'm not looking for extreme excellence, don't have the budget for that!
-
Agility 2 performs quite well, just a little slower than Vertex 2 and Force 120.
All these drives have been reviewed in depth by Xbitlabs and Techreport.
If it really costs 175 euros for 120Gb it's a steal. I've ordered one. -

I could start a lucrative business reselling them in my home country!
listed still at 350 !!

Well yes and no. I've seen it before if one wholesale makes a mistake, all the resellers make the same mistake.jv_guano said: ↑and doesn't sound like an error when 4 shops have it at under 200 Click to expand...
But who knows, this might be the beginning of a price war. I hope so. SSD prices have been too high for too long in my opinion. -
bright. do you think they will drop my order? I can pay them just by afternoon of Friday, let say 36 hours, will they hold it or sell it to someone else, since presumably they will get a huge demand for it?Phil said: ↑Well yes and no. is the intel g2 ahead of the Agility 2?

Agility 2 is faster in most situations.

honestly benchs at techreport are quite disappointing as the Agility2 is rated as worse than the Silicon Edge Blue, which, in my mind, occupies quite a low-cheap position.Phil said: ↑Agility 2 is faster in most situations.

That WD holds up quite nicely in Techreport's benches. It's a 256GB though.
and the Agility is a 100Gb instead of a 120GB. -
yeah I saw that the WD was the biggest capacity; though I don't think 100 vs. 120 GB will make much of a difference..Phil said: ↑That WD holds up quite nicely in Techreport's benches. It's a 256GB though.

The Corsair Force at the Egg for 309 is an AWESOME deal too! I want one bad!

well, maybe it was an error indeed, just the four shops under 200 euro are still there, a couple that were just over 200 disappeared,Phil said: ↑Well yes and no. I've seen it before if one wholesale makes a mistake, all the resellers make the same mistake.

oh and actually two of the under-200 shops have their price @ 328 and 312 !
that was literally stealing!
a HUGE thanks for the tip Phil!!!
