You're welcome man. But first we need to get it.
I actually ordered two... I wouldn't know what to do with 120GB. I'd probably sell it and keep my 50GB.

I just got a 256GB Crucial C300.
I've updated it to the latest firmware and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it.
Here are the CrystalDiskMark results:
Seems to perform pretty good for now.
-
Very very nice numbers!
Enjoy ur new toy
-
dayummm... i wish i had that kind of money to spend on a 256 c300..
thats what i need but its wayyyy outta my budget, -

Damn. I was down to 2 choices (F240 and OWC 240) but now its back to 3
This homework is giving me a hard time
Thanks for sharing. Have fun! -
hows that samsung of yours...? ( the ssd in your sig)
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
Its a good performer. Just want to try something better
-
Those are approximately the same numbers i got, not to mention the numbers stay consistent even when it is half full as mine is at the moment.
Any one know what the comparable crystaldiskmark numbers are for a sandforce drive of nearly the same size is? -
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
Have you tried filling it past half? 60% maybe? -
Sure, i can do that and further, but i think it will remain relatively high in the numbers.
-

That would be great. Btw, if I might suggest to use ATTO too (less than 50% and higher).
Thanks -
Hey I'm looking for my first SSD and well I don't know which one to get lol. I would like a fast 32-40GB. So far I'm leaning towards this: Intel X25-V Value 40GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (SSDSA2MP040G2R5) [] Internal Hard Drives Solid State Drives 30GB - 100GB
Any thoughts? -
The Intel is a good choice. Kingston 30GB delivers roughly the same performance for 66 GBP.
Kingston SSDNow V-Series 30GB, 2.5", SATA II (SNV125-S2/30GB) | Skinflint Price Comparison UK
Here's a good review between them: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3756/2010-value-ssd-100-roundup-kingston-and-ocz-take-on-intel
Interesting quote in the end:
"I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't give you the disclaimer about waiting. Intel's X25-V will grow to 80GB in Q4, presumably at the same price point as the 40GB drive today (hooray for 25nm NAND). If you don't want to wait and can spend the money, the 40GB X25-V is a good solution." -
Does the Kingston have TRIM?? I remember reading somewhere Kingston whined that Intel didn't give them TRIM so they have to write one themselves or something to that effect.
-
The 30GB Kingston does have TRIM afaik, the 40GB Kingston doesn't.
Please reread my previous message because I edited it a lot.
Also consider the 64GB Crucial C300 for only 110 GBP.
Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB, 2.5", SATA 6Gb/s (CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1) | Skinflint Price Comparison UK
It is a LOT faster than the Intel X25-V. -
Thanks Phil, gives me something to chew on haha.
-
so you ordered two of them and want to sell both? :|
i got mine, hail to Dutch post system!
I got back home at 14.30 and the postman was there at 14.15; luckily, as I saw earlier on the street a couple of parcel vans, I took my bike and managed to find the DHL one; the guy was so nice to give it to me right on the street!
and now..
'I don't knoooow what to doooo with the SSD' -
Wow! nice.
I just missed the delivery guy today so I'll also be getting it soon.
I ordered two but it looks like I'm only getting one. Still happy though.. -

I've been trying to optimize my wife's Envy 15 which is a 2nd Gen refurb model with Intel X18-M G2's in Raid0, i7-720QM and 8GB RAM. I installed Intel Rapid Storage Tech and confirmed using "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" that TRIM is enabled.
Is there some sort of Intel Optimizer Tool or anything active I can do to optimize the drive? The random 4k write seems abnormally low. The data strip size is 32K. Should I increase it?
The Intel RST application does not seem to allow any settings to be changed from the Manage screen, such as data strip size, etc. It only provides information.
here is are the crystaldiskmark scores out of the box (from HP refurb center I think, although it was purchased on eBay)

That fsutil command wont tell you if trim commands are passed to the drive though.
But my guess is its some software hitting the drive.
Run a benchmark using CrystalDiskMark in Safemode - that should allow you to compare. -

ok, since my thumbs are hitching cos I really wanna plug the SSD in..
do you think it is a problem to have a double partition in it, with Win7 and Ubuntu?
Moreover, regarding Win7, U think it is a problem if I clone the actual partition and paste it on the SSD?
Just askin cos SSDs are somewhat so different and more delicate under certain aspects than HHDs
thanx! -
I wouldn't clone partitions from HDD to SSD. Fresh install is always better because of fragmentation and drivers.
Double partition shouldn't be a problem. -
Why are the 4K random reads & writes so much faster in safe mode?
-
I have no idea, but no matter how many times i try it, the results are nearly identical every time.
-
I hadn't seen Techreport's Corsair Force 120 review. Quite disappointing results actually.

Thanks for the info.
rep given! -
I wrote to Crucial, and a rep told me that the 1.8" version of the c300 doesn't yet have a estimated time of arrival. That's a pity.
-
Woot! I'm loving Bing Cashback. Too bad the program's ending in a week. Just nabbed a 40GB Intel G2 SSDSA2MP040G2R5 for $92 out the door. Putting it in my new netbook I got for <$300 with BCB. Excellent.
-
what;s teh diff between 1.8" and 2.5" models, beside the obvious size diffrence?
If a model is available in both sizes... are there any performance diffrences? or its EXACTLY the same? Also, i'd assume the 1.8" ones are more expensive since they're smaller? -
AFAIK, the 1.8" uses microsata connector, so you need an adapter to connect to the 2.5" 'normal' sata connector.
One would think the 1.8" is more expernsive, but if you look on eBay, they're somewhat cheaper. I assume because of the extra connector one would need.
The 1.8" could also consume lower power because they're designed for netbooks AFAIK. I have no idea about the performance. -
im using a 1.8" intel g2 ssd pulled from an hp envy 15.
I had to use a 1.8" to 2.5" converter it is like an enclosure were you plug your ssd and then you attach it to your laptop. It costs around $35 @ newmodeus.com . It seems that the 1.8" ssd versions are a little more expensive, but just a few dollars.
To be honest it seems that they consume the same power, they should have the same speed.
BUT it seems that these hp versions of the intel ssd are a little slower, you wont notice but they are like 15 mb/s slower on sequential reads and 5mb/s slower on random 4k reads everything else is the same...

Nice quality and good support all the guys with 1.8" drives that want to use them as 2.5" should buy from there

I think the main benefit is that you can fit them side by side into a caddy and use two in Raid0 in the same space as 2.5" - but I believe your laptop and controller would need to be pre-configured to handle two microSATA connections -
Someone is a Space Balls fan..............

LOL. Yeah. That, and you needed to be part of the Envy 14 threads duing its release over the last several weeks. 10,000 posts in just a few weeks, crazy stuff. They said it was moving at ludicrous speed. Then I just proclaimed it's gone plaid.
-
i just took the plunge and got an 80GB intel. installed windows on it. all i'm gonna say is i'm never going back to HDDs (at least not for OS installation)
so i bought the X25-M (silver, gen 2). i tried to update the firmware, but it was already up to date. just looking to verify this. i want to be sure TRIM is working on the drive ... -
Install the Intel SSD toolbox and it will tell you.

Hi guys with 256GB Crucial C300, can you run ATTO bench test for me?
Thanks in advance -
i did, looked thru the details and i don't see anything called TRIM in the hex listing.

Great!!!
Impressive result.

Thanks!
EDIT: Forgot to ask which system was used to run this test?

i got an offer for an intel 160gb g2 for 320$ shipped to my door.
OR
the Samsung 256gb MMDOE56G5MXP-0VB for the same price.
my question is, will i really notice the diffrence? i know the intel is btter... but 256gb is much more practical for me. -
No look at your firmware number. Mine is 2CV102HD which is the latest.
-
The Samsung 256GB happens to also support TRIM. Here's the crystaldiskmark for it:

Depends on your usage. If you prefer more space go for the Samsung and if you are looking for quicker SSD get the Intel.
Can't comment how much difference between the said 2 SSD yet since my Intel SSD is still making its way to my place.
On a side note, make sure there's still warranty on the SSD you are getting. Found some sellers sell their Intel OEM SSD without the warranty. Just to be safe
-
It will be hard (impossible) to notice the difference between the two during normal usage.
OCZ Summit is Samsung based. ( source) -
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
In that case, what do you think would be the benefits of having a SSD with much faster 4K read? Just for bench tests?
ie, Samsung (27 Mb/s) vs OWC Mercury/Vertex 2/Crucial C300 (200Mb/s) = 1 sec difference?
Seem not so promising to get the Crucial 300
-
For most users 4K random reads are only interesting up to a certain treshold. Intel, Samsung, Indilinx all pass this treshold.
Very fast 4K random reads are only interesting for heavy multi tasking. The kind of multi tasking that most people here never/rarely do.
Going from a Samsung based SSD to a C300 will shave off a couple of seconds here and there, for example if you're loading a 20 second game level or opening a 40MB tiff together with Photoshop.
Yet I ordered a C300
