i just installed the software, but when I check the disk driver, it still shows native driver, Microsoft, 6.1.7600.16385.

Hmmm, are you able to install the older IMSM?
-
I think so, hmm, lol.

Did you download it from the first link? The OCZ forum link was to an early beta version I think.

OK, latest test: Intel G2 160GB

Cape, you should try the newest Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers... see back a page.
-
I will check that out. But not if I have to reformat. Are my results not good?
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Oh, no! No need to reformat (they're just drivers).
Your results look great, but these drivers are supposed to boost them even more.
See:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63480
but don't download from that page (beta)! -
I got them from here http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel raid.htm
I am tired and do not want to mess up my machine. they will not brick my machine? -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
The 9.5.0.1037 version right?
If your motherboard doesn't support them, they won't install. -
I just uninstall the intel rapid, maybe just stay with native windows driver
-
Yes, that is the version. Software did not install and drivers did not upgrade, said I had latest. Darn, how much speed am I missing out on ???
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
-
Yes, that is the version I tried to install.

Sorry Cape,
Edited my last post. Please re-read. -
No worries, I am liking my drive. The great thing is, it is seemles. I forget that i am even using an SSD. It is fast, but not that fast so far at what I do. But it is smooth, and also a cloned drive, which is never as good as fresh, I know. So, for now, I can really see where this will get very very popular. Less moving parts, YES!

Cool!
ronan_zj, can I ask why? -

I just installed the new "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers and am surprised at the difference on my old JMF612B-based drive:
Before -> After
I've never seen this drive read over 140MB/s, so the difference is significant...although I'm not sure what to make of the slower sequential writes (not too important to me though)
And although 4KB random writes this low are laughable in an absolute sense, the comparitive boost is actually more significant in real-world use than going from an Intel G1 to an Intel G2:
Before
After
This drive is still a real POS, but the new JMicron firmware combined with the new Intel driver is showing the best performance yet and the drive is actually quite quick compared to a 5400rpm notebook drive.
For reference, here is the 4KB random write before the JMicron firmware update and using the older Intel driver:
-
Here is mine, is it good?

I'm in the market for an SSD, but I need some advice. I'm looking for crazy fast performance, and I'm leaning towards an Intel SSD 160GB G2 34nm Postville drive (used for Boot Drive/Applications). Is this the best choice at the moment? Looking at Anandtech's SSD Improv article ( http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3667), it looks to be the best performer overall. It also supports TRIM, which I don't fully understand as of yet but what I do know is it increases the lifespan of a solid state drive (right?). This drive seems to only be bested by the 50nm Intel X-25E (Extreme) SLC SSD. Would it be stupid to go with the older X-25E?
I guess what I want is some reassurance that the price for the 160GB Intel SSD is going to be worth it. So, will it be worth it? -
TRIM cleans up a data mess left on the drive.
The E series ist very "small". -

If I can see a difference on my mechanical HD (Scorpio Blue) and it makes a difference on Jackboot's JMicron drive, then you should find it worthwhile too.
See my post a page or two back with my links to get the driver. -

that firmware puts my g1 to shame -
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Oh! Did you notice a difference before/after?
and jholty, 'sir' is not required - you're making me feel old! -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
you don't happen to have a link for this driver on the intel page itself? nothing against russians, i like them, but i never trust drivers not from the os maker, or the hw maker itself..
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Not yet!
-
also, i apologize, did not want to make you feel old. these days i am feeling a little old myself (30). -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Oh yeah, no apology necessary! (But I'm still old
)
I'm very tuned to how my systems run and my 'seat of the pants' antennae are maybe more sensitive than others.
But with those numbers you've posted, it would be hard to see an improvement unless those numbers doubled!
BTW, I forgot (sorry), what SSD are you running? And does it have the TRIM enabled firmware? -

hahahahah, sorry, when I'm in edit mode here, I can't see the sigs.
Thanks davepermen! -

don't know, never had anything biostar
but if they're from the 02-11th, then it's actually not that new. why isn't it available everywhere where it should? hm.. -

intel is having some funky pulling party lately.. pushing stuff out just to pull it again
well, it all works perfect here, so i just wait till they're official now -
I wonder if these Intel pages refer to desktops only or also to laptops...

DetlevCM,
The first link is the ones I was running (the 8.9XXX version) of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM).
The second link is to very old, early version of it - maybe not for notebooks.
The new ones are called Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and are version 9.5.0.1037 and they are installed and running on my Win 7 x64 VAIO notebook and my Vista x64 desktop systems. Oh, and running beautifully. -
Well, I'll wait until I hear from Intel and see then. Thanks for the info -

Just wanted to mention to everyone that these new Intel Rapid Storage drivers, while awesome (so far!), load a notification icon every time you reboot.
To disable, just go to the preferences tab (see max420's screen shot above) and uncheck the appropriate box. One less thing running is always good! -
STILL THE SAME PROBLEM
My driver didnt get upgraded to intel driverAttached Files:

No, just looking in the wrong place.
Check the driver version of your Intel AHCI Controller. -
FYI- Newegg doing the nice $214.99 USD + F/S again this Friday for the Intel X25-M G2 80GB. 'Cept this time, there's 10% Bing CB making it $193.50 USD after Cashback...
Cheers,

davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
ok.. did it..
installed the drivers.
well, on this single mtron (100mb/s read write, degenerated by over one year use in a raid0) i got up from a 4.4 to 5.9 on win7 winsat
now on to the intel ssd(btw, if i fully format the mtron, it goes by itself from 4.4 to 5.9, tested that on the second mtron i have.. so i will clean this one later, too)
performance difference so far? yep, i think the mtron boots a bit faster now. -

Yay for 2011. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
in 2011, i won't care anymore about ssds. all i want is memristors. processors with integrated memristor storage. anything else will be so utterly uncool and unfast and unhip and such, you couldn't understand using anything else
i'd love to see faster progression there, really.. they have no write issues => no wearleveling needed and all that. just fast, everything -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
not really much difference on the intel drive here. it changed the balance of the results. some went up, some down.. and as it was perfectly snappy before, it's hard to find out if it's even more snappy now
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
davepermen, the G1, correct?
You made me re-run WEI and my Scorpio stayed the same (5.8), but I certainly can feel the difference - the 'snap' factor is impressive. -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes the g1. well, as said. the 'snap factor' is already perfect on the intel (and the reason i love it above all other ssds, like f.e. samsungs which fail at it), so .. can't really improve there much. in raw speed, it stayed the same, too, so there are no real gains.
then again, as always, who cares?so far, no losses.
