Wow thats quite shocking not to mention annoying I'm sure. I keep reading reviews on Newegg as well as Amazon and others have said the exact same thing about this drive just failing after only a few days. I wonder if there's some kinda defect going on? Oh well I've decided to go with a WD 7200 rpm drive but the combo of less noise and more space made the Samsung so hard to ignore....

guys my Samsung 1TB M8 failed a couple of weeks ago after 1 month of usage. i sent it for RMA to Samsung. A week later it was taken over by Seagate and now they are handling the replacement.

Seagate emailed me stating that the Samsung 1TB M8 currently was not in stock, so they have given me 2 options..

    1. Wait for Samsung 1TB M8 to be in stock and then get the replacement.

    2. Take 1 ST9750423AS a 750GB Momentus SATA laptop drive + 1 external FreeAgent Model-ST902503FGA2E1-RK to make up for the capacity lost.

Which option should i take...? Will the Seagate ST9750423AS a 750GB Momentus be more stable/reliable than the Samsung 1TB M8 or should i wait for them to have the stock of the Samsung 1TB M8 ?

    Regards,

    Rana

I been using my M8 for 3months , so far so good but sometimes when i try to run some software it seem to be a bit slow , good for storage use.

I second this option. Can't hurt to ask, just point that external solutions are inconvenient for your usage.

    guys,

i really need the 1tb capacity. i'm a normal user who just uses the laptop for surfing the net etc. so i don't need the super sonic speed of the XT.

what i'm confused about is whether....

    1. i should wait for them to have stock of the Samsung M8 1tb ?

    or

    2. should i accept the 750 segate + 250 ecternal seagate ?

Which HDD be more reliable or is there no way to tell ?

    Thanks.

if you need the 1TB wait, or you might be able to take the 2 seagates and sell them and buy a M8 or the western digital alternative for cheaper, make a profit

I had this model for about 2-3 months before it crashed - my OS was stuck for about 2 minutes, and when my desktop came back, Windows could no longer see the drive.

I stuck the drive in another PC, and the files and partitions were visible, but it would get stuck occasionally while copying files to/from it. It's now being RMA'ed - first HDD I've had an issue with in a long while.

Anybody who owns this drive, would you please tell me if the drive spindown and spinup sounds like the following? Untitled2.wma

I can't recall if it sounded like this when I first got it brand new or if something is wrong with my drive.

Also please tell me what your drive's load/unload cycle count is. You can read it on the bottom of the Health page in HD Tune, or similarly in any program that can tell you your drive's S.M.A.R.T statistics.

Mine is currently at 128499 which I'm guessing is rather high.

Spinning down is not the same as load/unload. My drive has a Start/Stop count of 1352 which is what you are referring to.

Seagate now has the Samsung 1tb M8 back in stock and they are shipping me my replacement drive. I hope this time it's reliable and stays working for a long time. the previous one had failed within 1 month and after i'd sent it for RMA to samsung i have had to wait for about 5 weeks total time between them receiving the faulty HDD and sending a replacement HDD, due to the seagate taking over samsung process and the drive not being in stock.

I must say that in my interaction with Seagate customer service i found them to be very courteous and understanding of my situation and prompt in trying to best help me in arranging a replacement HDD.

Should i sell this drive and buy a WD 1tb JPVT ?

Dunno, I'm pretty surprised at peoples failure rates with this drive.

I've had 3 in Raid 0 in my Clevo p170hm, zero failure, no damaged blocks, I've run integrity checks often and there has never been a single issue and its been 5 months.

AND they still run at 280-300 MB/s. Not sure what's going on with many people's 1TB M8's :\

can owners please come out and share..

    1. How long have you been using this HDD without problems ?
    2. If you had to RMA the 1st HDD, then how long have you be using the replacement HDD without problems ?

    Thanks

3 months and SMART checks fail. I do not like Seagate drives so I went with Samsung instead.... Surprise Surprise, Seagate does the RMA for Samsung and labeled the drive as Momentus 1TB. I am selling the replacement/s and going for a WD 1TB JPVT.

WD WD WD WD WD WD WD WD WD, drop the price.

got a replacement from seagate for my originally samsung m8 1tb. It says seagate on the label.

HD Tune Pro shows... "Calibration Retry Count" warning in yellow.

    What does this mean ?

    Thanks

Got a Samsung 1TB today, copied all my data to my external s2 then put the new drive in and copied the data back (320GB). It seems quick so far.

After cloning from my old non-AF HDD to my new 1TB M8, I have discovered that it is misaligned, i.e. the cloning program (Todo Backup 5) did not adjust to the advanced format of my M8 destination disc.

What can I do to re-align "after the act"? Has anyone used the Samsung Advanced Format Utility to do that successfully? Any other ideas? Cheers!
