I bet you like diesel engines too...![]()

I love diesel engines, particularly two stroke Detroits and large CAT's.
Just look at my avatar
I like the sound of 15K drives, they sound amazing.
I must say the loudest drives I ever had were some old maxtor's
anyways, well see how this drive performs, when we get more reviews

you guys dont understand. i used a dell inspiron 9100 for 4 years and i will never use a laptop that makes that much noise again.
the fan + drive noise, it was awful. -
I know the inspiron 9100, my friend has one.
Dont worry my D900K is about 2x as loud

I knew it!! That as soon as I ordered a pair of WD3200BEKT's, that the new Samsung killer drive would become available. Oh well...
Consider that my contribution to the cause. Oh, the sacrifices some of us make *tongue in cheek* -

well newegg has it now

good price to -
Sitting bare on my desk I can hardly hear it... I'll let you know more when its inside my E6500.
Someone should change the thread title from a question mark to an exclamation mark... -
Whoa they finally have it!
Someone buy it and please post benchmarks -
You should go read the last couple of pages of this thread -
Thank you so much!!
If you could please run and HD Tune bench, that would be amazing -
No can do now
I'm typing this on my fresh Windows 7 install on my new drive -
one4spl, how loud is the drive in a silent room?
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
maybe i'll upgrade when this bad boy comes out :]
-
It's out, so we might as well merge all the threads together
-
It can get a bit vocal on seeks if you are moving the laptop, ie tilting it on your lap, but its still hardly noticable.
Its obviously using a bit more power than the SSD, the hdd area of the laptop is warm now, whereas it used to be pretty cool.
I'll see how it goes in the real world over the next week.
As an asside, Windows 7 rocks -
Aww, I am guessing it still isn't available in the UK yet then, although it sounds like it's definitely no disappointment! I might try scanning lots of US sites...checking to see if they deliver internationally.
-
impressive result one4slp. I might as well pick up one very soon.
-
-
Ordered! UPS 3-day delivery. Should be here by tuesday hopefully.
-
-
i bought mine from macmall. so shady their shipping policy is "free after rebates" who does that?
-
-
G-force protection is free fall sensor
-

Yeap.
FWIW the one I have is the G version. -
I just got mine in the mail today from Newegg as well. I may be able to run a HD Tune on it...
-
Just ordered mine from provantage. $147 and some change including shipping. Looks like they don't have them available to ship today. But it states 2-3 days and they will ship it. I looked every were and couldn't find anyone who actually has it in stock for that price.
FWI mine is the ASG model. 500 gb. -
Wow, thanks alot one4spl! That's quite a bit faster than I'd dared to hope for, and that it's quiet is a great bonus! I'd just been thinking how nice it would be to have a quieter drive with Win7. I'd been planning to wait until I decided whether to get Win7 at least to buy a new drive given these incessant delays, but now that it's finally arrived and surpassed expectations, it's tempting again.
-
$170 CAD from Newegg.ca ! Hopefully NCIX gets it in soon so I can just pick it up
-
Now that is out, I gotta decide whether to get the
SATA 3.0Gb/s 500GB ST9500420AS (without free fall sensor)
SATA 3.0Gb/s 500GB ST9500420ASG (with free fall sensor)
Everyone here picking up the ASG version? -
Honestly, you have a SZ laptop, you might as well get it because you have the capability. Right now, it's only a five dollar premium in other stores, Newegg doesn't carry it (and i don't htink ever will) so you might have to purchase it from a less reputable seller
-
Simpler is the better choice... Are you dropping your laptop every day? Your data may blow out without dropping the hdd too...
-- -
I think I may end up putting one of these in my sager when it comes.
-
I am considering putting this drive in my new MPB. But does anybody know why CTI store needs 2 weeks to ship this when they say it is "in stock"?
It is way cheaper than newegg, but can we trust it?
http://www.ctistore.com/product/1/code,ST9500420AS.html -
-
It is not way cheaper. Paying $13 more on newegg is well worth it, IMO.
-
Honestly, I wouldn't buy from provantage. My brother bought something from them about a year ago, the package came within 2 weeks.
About a month ago my brother went to buy a Hitachi E7K1000 from them. They stated the lead time was 2-4 days, that turned into 3 weeks, and than into provantage not answering him anymore. He had to call American express and have the order canceled.
I wouldn't buy from Provantage just from the trouble my brother had with them.

My ASG version has shipped out today from buy.com. The AS version was already sold out when i ordered and now i see the ASG version has sold out as well. You guys must be buying up these things like hotcakes! Happy upgrading.
-
I ended up getting the AS version. I couldnt wait for Macmall to ship out the ASG after 3 weeks! Newegg is well worth the $10.00 extra with 3 day UPS ground. Theyre always on time with delivery, unlike BUY.com
Buy.com is usually couple dollar cheaper than newegg but it takes them 1.5-2 weeks for delivery. -
Now we need to open up one of these threads for WD and Hitachi
-
150 dollars is a lot of money. Anybody thinks this might go down in a short while?
The 5400rpm 500gb drives didn't really go down that much in the last six months... so I'm afraid these might not either.... -
they might when competition rolls out their 7200rpms... but i mean there's not even news of that. kind of lame.
-
I doubt its going to be cheaper...Im sure competition is going to have similar price range between 120-150.
-
Its funny, thinking back. I was one of the early adopters (read = stupid) who bought a Hitachi 7k60 when it first came out. The price tag for having the first 7200rpm notebook HD? It was six hundred dollars of bragging rights. That's more than it cost me for my SSD.
-
I bought one.
Will post results when it arive ... probably in 3 days or so. -
-
Is that supposed to mean something ? -
yeh its a joke. read the past 4 posts.
-
Anyways back to 7200.4
I'm surprise the random access time is around 16 ms. I thought the two 250 GB platter with 7200 would be a bit lower. -
