You mean what title? Whatever you like... you've said a lot of good stuff already, and you're welcome to use what I've given too.
Let's wait and discuss PD details in the new thread...).

There are a few old threads about PD, check'em out, looks like maybe they are all closed.
I'd put it in the Windows OS section, but it looks like others picked the SSD section.

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
I see MSI is still taking their sweet time releasing the Bios updates. I have Checked a few Skylake / KabyLake laptops in the 2015/2016 release range and not one has been updated as of yet.

Gt62vr 6re got the bios update. Miracle we got it this fast.

Strange as GT72-6Qx still hasn't got their updates yet.

Don't think GT72-6Q series is getting the Micro-Code updates in a bios update I wonder why that is.

My desktop MSI Krait Gaming 3x motherboard still hasn't received BIOS update for this issue either. (using the software fix posted earlier until a hopeful BIOS release)

@Robbo99999 I have done the same as a temp fix for Windows OS however its shameful that MSI are taking this long in updating the effected bioses, they need more people in the BIOS Dept thats for sure. MSI Claims to be the first in everything yet thus far they are being the very very last in sorting this issue out.

I'm starting to think that people who haven't received a BIOS update yet won't be getting one in the future! Intel sent out the updated microcode to the vendors all the way back in May, there's been a couple of BIOS updates for my MSI motherboard since then, but none of them contain the microcode fix, they're ignoring it and the news of the hyperthreading bug has dissipated into the background - I think we're gonna have to live with our software fix!JorgeManuelSilva91, Vasudev and hmscott like this. -
MSI and other vendors respond to owner requests, if noone is asking for it they aren't going to do it, too many other projects that need resources, projects that bring in additional $, supporting things already sold on a marginal need require noise from owners to get those resources.
Ask. Be detailed, but brief, and be specific with links / sources to help them find their way.

Just now briefly looked into how to contact MSI with my query you mentioned - you have to register with them on their forums in order to contact them, if only they had a simple e-mail address for customer service, I'm not gonna register at yet another website for a problem that I have a solution for already. MSI are aware of the problem, if they can't be bothered to support their products properly that's on them, if I had a real need for an updated BIOS with the fix included, then I would jump through some of their hoops to contact them on the vague hope that it would spur them on to release a fix, but not as it stands currently.tilleroftheearth, hmscott and Vasudev like this. -

This will be my 8th contact to MSI, Sent in tickets that just get answered that its getting forwarded and then ticket closes and MSI Notebook UK Twitter just now ignores me out right @hmscott so i have tried to contact them to get the issue resolved by as the notebook is of that with issues to the MXM Upgrade (Still rocking aftermarket GTX 1060 MXM Upgrade without issues) then the chances are is that i am getting ignored deliberately. If thats the case they can send me a programmer and the files for the bios building and i will fix it myself.
Meanwhile people with effected seems still have to use their systems where data loss is a major concern. Not everyone is going to keep patching Windows with new Intel Microcode to fix short comings of a OEM Tech support.JorgeManuelSilva91, Papusan, Robbo99999 and 1 other person like this. -
Burning bridges sucks, especially when you need to get across the river for a repair... something to ponder as you are trying to figure out how to be taken seriously by MSI again.
Being a decent polite respectful person goes a long way even in problem situations that seem without resolution, that's why it's important to respect people and their role in your life, and not trash talk them and dump all over their situation - especially when it is completely out of their control and not of their making.
Nobody is going to put up with what I saw being dealt out to the UK MSI Support people.
At this point if you were part of those that dealt out that disrespect to MSI UK Support, I suggest you sell off your MSI equipment and start off on the right foot with a new brand.alexhawker and Papusan like this. -
Gee, really? Too much of a hassle to register your laptop for support? Are you saying you haven't registered your laptop yet for warranty support?
That's a requirement to get support, even if you don't care enough to ask for BIOS update microcode fixes, at least register your laptop for warranty support. That isn't a forum, that's a product registration page.
You need a member login, which is different than the MSI Forum login, BTW.
Even if you don't need warranty support, at least you have the serial number registered in your name, so if your laptop gets stolen or lost you can report it to MSI Support so they can track activity on your laptop serial number to find the thief when they try to register for support.
Take 5 minutes, a photo of your purchase receipt, create a login, and register your laptop, it's kinda basic to laptop ownership

Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
I'm talking about a desktop MSI motherboard, not a laptop - if it was a laptop I would have been sure to register it. I should probably register the motherboard, but I think the warranty is still honoured as long as I contact them within 3 yrs of purchase date with my serial number if something goes wrong with it (along with proof of purchase). Nope, not gonna jump through hoops to contact them about BIOS update for hyperthreading bug fix (as explained in previous post).Last edited: Sep 8, 2017 -
Those aren't hoops, probably less effort than posting here on NBR, 5 - 10 minutes tops, hardly a smidgen of a sacrifice.
You've missed out on the free 3 months extra warranty extension, BTW. You get that from MSI for registering within 14 days (or is it 30 days?) after the purchase date on the receipt.
It pays off registering as soon as you get the product.
-
Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
Ha, knew you were gonna say that first sentence, but I'm still not gonna do it!
That extra 3 months does not include motherboards or GPUs.
hmscott likes this. -
And how would you know that for sure having never created a membership login or registration?
Did you know you don't get the free 1 year of ADC (accidental damage coverage) unless you register your product within 30 days of purchase?
Come'on, you know you want to, go ahead and get a membership login and register all of your MSI products, maybe look around for other brand products you haven't registered too, it's never to late to become a part of the system.
Papusan and Robbo99999 like this. -
Omfg I did not know about ADC? I am glad I registered right away.

Ha, it says about the extra 3 months not being applicable to GPU & motherboard if you click the "MORE" button next to Warranty Registration on their web page. I don't know if ADC would be included with my motherboard, but I obviously missed that window if it existed - good job the only PC/laptop hardware I've ever wrecked was some RAM in a laptop that I was vacuuming to get the dust out (use a can of compressed air instead!)! Ha, I did register my GPU, that's important to me! BUT, I did a back plate cooling mod on my GPU, and also flashed a different vBIOS that cures the Micron VRAM overclocking issues as well as using liquid metal for the thermal paste - only gone & devalidated that warranty too! I don't think I registered my CPU, but I delidded that so I have no warranty support - I'm living on the edge! Can't remember if I registered anything else in my system - I think I have a lot of faith in the electronic goods I own - stuff doesn't break on me - it likes me!JorgeManuelSilva91, Papusan and hmscott like this. -

I have always been respectful when I have stepped out of line I have apologised. When I have placed in support tickets I have been polite. In fact I let them know of the issue as soon as I found out and even pointed them the right way to the information. Unless they have said something to you very differently. Yes things have been heated at times but what was meant to be expected after a promise which was the main reason to purchase there product after years of saving up and nearly a year of research.
At the same time they can't really leave a system in a flawed state either where data loss can occur.
I can't sell the system as no one will buy it due the resale value being smashed with the MXM issue(s). So either way for me it seems it's a loose loose.

They all would probably fix it, if the problem was similar as Superfish Vulnerability

@Papusan If it was something like SuperFish it would solely depend if the OEM in question was caught out, in case of Lenovo they was caught out so they had no choice but to patch it out due to the up roar. It also not Lenovo first time either being caught out either with something fishy. Just look at their Whitelisting of Wifi cards and charging a premium for the same card as a standard OEM but with a Lenovo ID in the firmware instead that caused a stink and still does to this day.

Another microcode patch for gt62vr. Now it is BE.
-
It should be BA since it fixes HT bug completely. BE microcode is temporary fix for HT bug on 6700hq.
-
It actually updated from BA to BE.
-
Which is your CPU, 6700HQ or 6820HK? On 6700HQ, BA is latest microcode revision for 6700HQ whilst BE is a superseded by BA. You can use UBU or similar to check the latest microcode.
-
I think its a typo. Its indeed BA. See this link and update the microcode if you're unsure http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...s-broken-ht-on-laptops-pc-fix-is-here.806451/

The new bios update for the gt62vr, mentions microcode update. It basically replaced BA with BE. I al not sure the microcode version number can have typos once installed since these are from Intel.

Looks like that. But according to intel docs the latest ucode is BA for i7 6700hq. You can use the above posted link in previous posts and apply it to see if it changes anything after reboot.hmscott likes this.

I used to use that before MSI released BA a few months ago. Then 3 or 4 days ago MSI released BE with their new bios.

I seem to be having trouble unpacking this file. Could you reupload it? Also i tried to use the VMware CPU Microcode updater tool together with the last file from intel website. But when i click the install.bat (as admin) i get a message saying i need the AMD package as well? Why do i need this if i have a intel processor? (i7 7700HQ) Also if i DO need it where do i get it and wich one do i need? When i check my Microcode version with HWinfo it's version 5E do i even need this update? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.
-
Looks fine to me, I've already included AMD and Intel ucodes. With KabyLake CPUs the OEM already issued fixes as BIOS updates.

Thx! By using 7zip i managed to unpack your file. I also ran the update but nothing changed in my version Number for CPU Microcode it's still 5E. I guess that's newest for me.
Edit: btw where can i actually check if i have the latest version?Last edited: Nov 2, 2017
