That's the luck of the draw. Your CPU is one of those which shows why Intel put the pre-assigned voltages as high as they are.

Yeah after i cleaned out my vents and undervolted i shaved off about 25C on my gpu and cpu as well.

So much for nice and cool, the E8400 likes to cook compaired to my old one. On this new system, default is 1.1125V @ 72/70C Max load. I was still able to use the lowest setting available and remain stable at 1.0375V @ 70/67C. Not much of a difference at all. Never BSOD'd, just can't undervolt any more. Also don't have the SuperLFM for me, so I'm stuck idling at 2GHz still.

Hmm, even by reducing the voltages from 1.25V to 1.17 it only took 5C off the max CPU load. It hits 74C on a constant basis
    I think time it`s taking it`s tool,already 2.5 years old and more...

I was wondering, since the option isn`t present...
SuperLFM is not available for Yonahs?

SLFM and IDA need the Santa Rosa (Intel 965) chipset, suitable CPUs and a BIOS that enables these features.

Darn, so the lowest the CPU can go is 1 Ghz and still not good enough.
At max load, even UVed, it hits 75C ,I`m afraid to even test Orthos :D

Hi all. I would like to share my undervolt experience here. I want to find out if undervolt would give longer battery life, so I use Kill A Watt for watt measurement.
Since I’m still new at undervolting, if any of you find my info not accurate, please correct me.

    Test machine

    Compaq F762NR
AMD Dual Core TK-57 1.90 GHz
    3 G ram
    WD 120 HD
    OS Vista SP 1
    DVD R/W Rom

    I use Orthos for testing

At default setting, 1.90 GHz at 1.075v = 52 watt full load on both cpu.

Undervolt setting, 1.90 GHz at .9000v = 39 watt full load on both cpu.

UnderClock and Undervolt setting, 1.00 GHz at .7125v = 24 watt full load on both cpu

Starting up the notebook = 60 to 45 watt.
No different in watt disabling the DVD Rom.
Notebook in sleep mode = 1 to 0 watt.
Adjust screen brightness 30% at a time = 2 to 3 watt increase.

I will do more testing soon.

do you mind posting your complete voltages and temps?

yes, of course, here you are, but i don't get what you mean with "complete voltages"- this is my voltage, I'm using only that in RMclock- 10x multiplier- 1.075v.

Awesome overclock mirage... specially when it only reaches 72c

When i said complete voltages, i meant show your multiplier voltages 6x-10x

Well, when doing the same usual activities(browsing, excel , word, mathcad and a field analysis program, it maxes out at 78/79C .
I`m afraid to run Orthos, the thing has not been cleaned and AS5 was not around 2.5 years ago.
I`ll have to open it up and AS5 the bugger, since by UVing 0.5V on the max multiplier it barely shaved off 4-5C ...

How did you mange to overclock? Does ur laptop have such a feature built in or what?
To better compare, ive come up with an idea: Post ur UVI (Undervolting Index) = ( MHZ/mV ) * 100

    Mine is 25.

    For the Nx9420 : (1667/1170)*100=142

    For the Sager : (2197/1050)*100=209 ...

    Uhm. LOL.
    1.17V=1170 mV :)

Maybe you should make your formula to multiply by 10 instead of 100 :p

Thanks for inviting me in this post Flipfire, very well explained everything, congrats.

So, this is my achievement so far:

I disable more intermediate clocks, because I see they dont uses frecuenly, only changes between the lowest and the higer clocks. I lower the SuperLFM from 8x to 6x, (800 mhz to 600 mhz, like 1.7 Dothan), doing that at the same voltage (0.9v) it gives me 10 minutes of battery life.

My only doubt, I can't get voltages lower than 0.9v, I was expecting lower the minimum clock for enhance the battery life, like I done in a Pentium-M. I see some people getting 0.85v or less in their options, it is by the Santa Rosa platform that allow lower voltages?

    Regards.

PS: There is any overclocking guide for this mobile processors?, I could get a little pump too, when I look the post of the T7300, my hands tickles for mhz...

    It`s in the CPU.
My lowest if 0.95 V for example, but mine is a T7500.
Higher the CPU frequency, higher the minimum voltage required.
For OCing the CPU : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=249470 , this is Audigy`s app that auto-OCes the CPu.
    Or manually, using SetFSB .
    However, CAUTION :
First go back to default voltages, OC, then start UVing until unstable.
OCing requires more Volts, and while your system is stable as is , UV at the stock frequency, raising that would need more power.

I've noticed that for some reason RMClock isn't saving it's settings when I reboot. I choose to apply PoD settings on startup>Apply, selected Run at Windows Startup>Apply (in settings), and Apply Settings at Startup>Apply (in Advanced CPU Settings). Even still, when I reboot it doesn't start automatically, and all settings and voltages reset. Is that something a simple re-install would fix?

I've also noticed that RMClock reads about 10C lower than HW Monitor and PC Wizard 08 now, at any voltage and load. It's an E8400, if that helps. When I first started the UV'ing, all programs reported the same temps. Even after UV, it's still reading 68-70C in HW Monitor under load, which is barely any change from normal (1.1125V to 1.0375V change). Does that sound normal for this proc?

Thanks for a great guide! +repped

    My highest temp of 83 degrees C (!) @ 1.25V went down to a high of 66 degrees C @ 0.95V.

    That's an undervolt of .30V (24%), and a drop in temp of 17 degrees C (20.5%).

I have a old laptop that I'm trying all this out on.. Its a Compaq with a AMD 20F42

I cant wait for my XPS 1530!!:

    Awesome guide..

I'm the other way around, RM CLock is showing the false temp. Either that, or Coretemp is also not running right, along with HW Monitor.

After looking at your screen shot...

I think the problem with HW Monitor might be that mine only displays whats labeled as'' THRM'' Doesnt display the core itself, Yet the other programs display the core. Whats THRM? Why doesn't it display the core.

Just a question for future reference to if you don't mind, What is a average ''SAFE'' Temp for a core to reach?

Also, When using ORTHOS to test, There is a few test types to choose from, Which it the best to use?

Thanks, Great forum here! Sorry for so many questions.

This is the ASPI(Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) temperature. I don't know why hwmonitor can't read your cpu sensor..

70ºC even 80ºC(although someone will say this is too hot). C2D CPU, according to Intel can reach 100ºC max then will force the system to power off.
With the default(CPU&RAM) you're good to go.

Just got my T8300 today and it's already way better than my T5450. Default temps before AS5 were about 47C at lowest, now I'm at 42C lowest. But that'll get better once the AS5 sets in and I can undervolt. Be back later.
EDIT: need to update my sig!
EDIT2: just did a 45 min stress test, didn't even hit 66C at max voltage. Should be able to reduce my voltage down to .9500 from 1.000-1.100 for lowest multi.

Right now, I'm just messing around, Learning about everything with a older Compaq.. With a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion64

Seems like that AS5 works well, Is that the best out? Sure seems like everyone loves it. I know I have used some of their products before on some Pentium 4s we overclocked along time ago.

You should trick Vista to bypass driver signing(driver signing keeps Vista from loading drivers that are NOT verified by Microsoft). Apparently this tool do that by turn this feature off.
