Well, it seems that undervoltng saved you 10C (18F). Good.

Now for which frequency you want. Remember that you have to check the FID boxes for all the clock frequencies that you plan on using in ANY/ALL power schemes in the main Profile setup.

I suppose that in Power Saving you picked your low FID and the high one for Max. Perf. You didn't say which profile selection you were using in your post, but if you were using Perf. on Demand, there's a trap. In the POD profile, there's a window to input a value for "Target CPU usage %". The default is 50%. That means you're stuck at your low FID until a really big load comes along and then it returns back as soon as the job is over.

Running HWMonitor and the like is not enough load for RMC to even think about stepping up. I set my threshold at 15%. Lots more responsive to normal loads. After I tired of that nonsense, well, see my Avatar :D

does my lappie has a half multiplier tt im not engaging? anyway this is the 1FID state.. juz a comment, when i use 1 FID, my cpu temp actually gets hotter when i use applications, eg up to 50degree when i play dota, whereas if i use POD it's only about 43-45degree. any concerns about tt? will it run battery out faster?

The laptop is about 7 months old.
I clean out the air vents on a regular basis.
I guess I could open up the bottom panel of the laptop and clean it like that additionally.
The temps aren't dangerously high when gaming or performing cpu intensive tasks (they are pretty much the same from when I first got the laptop), but it's disconcerting that undervolting the CPU had 0 effect on temps (as I would like to bring them down all the same).

Any other suggestions as to why the temps were not affected by undervolting, or was someone with P7350 able to undervolt the cpu without underclocking as well?

I vaguely remember HWMonitor and other such utilities with low level hardware drivers (in the hidden devices section of Device Manager) as interfering with RMC's need for sole and complete access to your machine's guts. Just a thought

Yeah, but can you laptop get up to 88 miles an hour? Otherwise it's kinda pointless having that flux capacitor :)

I use HWMonitor and have no problem with RMClock; but you can always try other temp software such as coretemp; see if you still have problems.

Bloody simple, mate. Use only one FID and avoid SLFM like the pox. Having driven a '73 XKE V12 proved handy, also.

I am getting some strange voltage readings on my machine. Here's the config:

    - HP dv4t laptop with C2D T5800 (Merom @ 2GHz)
    - Vista home premium with SP2
    - rmclock 2.35 (latest version)
    - I am using CPU-Z 1.51 and coretemp 0.99 to verify the frequencies and voltages

The strangeness is that the "Core VID" reported by cpuz is always 0.113v greater than the requested VID shown in rmclock and coretemp. I'm assuming that cpuz is reporting a measured value, but I am wondering if it is accurate. It it is, then perhaps the voltage regulation in my computer is faulty and it is overvolting by default?

    Update:
It appears that CPU-Z 1.51 was to blame. After upgrading to CPU-Z version 1.52, the reported "Core VID" values now match the values shown in rmclock and coretemp. I'm assuming that the VID values reported by ver 1.51 were wrong.

Wasn't "Chumley" Tennessee Tuxedo's sidekick? I have to know !

Anyway, I'm thinking you might have too many utilities giving too many answers. I undervolted a T5750 beautifly with just RMC and Orthos. If I recall, 6X to 9X were all at the lowest allowable VID and 10X and 11X (IDA, yes, use it. I'll explain) were a litlle higher. Don't use SLFM, whatever that FID is. Just use RMC for your temps and voltages. You don't need to run Orthos more than 15 minutes to get a feel for where you need to be.

Now, for my agenda. You only need two speeds (only one for me). Use the lowest (non-SLFM) and the highest (IDA). Uncheck the rest. Now divvy up your profiles according to fast, slow and perf. on demand. In Adv. CPU, uncheck the IDA and SLFM boxes. Now your 11X setting will give you your 10.5X and the full 2000 MHz. :)

For P.O.D., you need the high and low speeds and you need to lower the Transition % level to 15% so high speed will actually bother to kck in at a reasonable load. Most of us have other applications besides Orthos....

I enclosed a thumbnail to show how similar the 5750 and 5800 really are.

    Cheers,

i haf a HP Pavilion tx1000, running on AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-56 / 2.0ghz. when i use RMclock, its advanced cpu settings tab shows different options to the norms u normally see, and it always says my cpu is running at 0.8ghz, the lowest 4.0x multiplier. it has 4.0x to 10.x multipliers, all of which has default values of 1.1250. why is tt so?
and also, can anyone kindly enlighten me.. if i use only 1 FID, i notice my temp gets higher when i start application than if i use POD. is tt going to take up more batt life?

    Yep. :)

I'm not running those tools all the time, was just trying to verify the actual CPU voltage. CPU-Z was the only tool I tried that seemed to report the measured voltage rather than the requested voltage.

I suppose another possible explanation for what I'm seeing is that the regulation is good, but the voltage monitoring is just not accurate.

According to the first page of this thread, the T5xxx series don't support SLFM. Rmclock doesn't offer me SLFM or IDA, so therefore I'm not using them. :)

Currently I have all multipliers, 6x through 10x, set to the min voltage of 1.05. This tests stable for hours on end at max multiplier with Prime95 (similar to Orthos).

Thanks. Interesting to note that this info shows VID 1.075-1.175 for the T5800, but rmclock offers me 1.050-1.250.

    I'm confused
Load is zero to 100%. That's your gas pedal. It's how hard your CPU is working.
FID is CPU frequency, some multiple of your clock chip. ex. 10X times 200MHz = 2GHz.
VID is the actual voltage you set each FID to run at (with no BSOD).

Could you pitch me again ?

Running my T5800 at full load (prime95 stress test), 10x multiplier, 1.05 VID, ambient temp ~78F, my CPU temp was in the 66-68C range. At stock voltage without RMClock it was about 15C hotter, quite a difference.

This works amazing, a drop of 20 degrees when fully stressed!!

    92 => 70 ish!!

Now all i need is thermal paste, to get it down to 60-65.

    Thx!

This is weird, according to this guide, the first thing to do is note your max temp which should be 70-90ish. But on my Clevo M860TU, I installed HWMonitor 1.14 and ran ORTHOS for 10 mins and the max temp I get is around 63C, is that normal?

It doesn't jive with the guide :(

But when I ran 3dmark06 I get a 72C max for both cores of my C2D, this is really weird.

You should be happy, this means your laptop is equipped with a good cooling system (mine doesnt go over 60 on stock voltages either).
As for the 3dmark temps, they are hotter, bcos your cooling system has to keep both your CPU and GPU cold, which can be more than twice the heat than just your CPU when you have a strong graphics card!

EDIT: Well, I'm following the guide now and I noticed that there was a note there where it says that RMClock won't recognize C2D CPU's with half multipliers including the P9500 which is what I use as of the moment. I don't want to lose a precious 100 MHz of clock speed.

So is there an alternative way to do this undervolting?

    Thanks.

Pretty much. The interfaces are a little different, but it's the same process. CPUGenie is not free though; but they do have a 30 day trial. I prefer CPUGenie to the other pieces of software; so I paid for a copy. Mind you, I'm the type of person that donates money if I constantly use freeware (being a developer myself in a previous life)

Well this is what I did. I went under performance on demand and it only showed two different multipliers 6.0x and 7.0x. I couldn't lower or make them any higher. The 6.0x setting was already on 1.0000 and the 7.0x I was able set to 1.0250. I also set the target cpu load to 15%. And then I went under the main profile page and selected both multipliers. Yesterday I went ahead and checked the box for the auto VID or is it FID (I don't have my laptop with me at the moment). You need anything else?

Ok, lemme give it a try. Thanks.

Just installed CPU Genie 1.1 Trial, and I'm kinda confused with the interface because it gives me more
indexes" than RMClock does. I can't seem to use this guide with CPU Genie or is it just my noobness :(

Can you guide me on this?

And this is also weird, I have a P9500 and CPU Genie 1.1 shows me that I can use a 10x multiplier where in fact the default highest multiplier that this CPU have is 9.5x. Why is this?

I let CPU Genie test the CPU at 10x, ran CPU-Z ID and it just shows that it is running at 9.5x (which is what I expected).

It seems that CPU Genie is not detecting my CPU properly?

And I don't understand SuperLFM (Index 0) and Index 1, in my case they do have the same default multiplier (6x) and same default VID (0.9 V) but when I try them individuall, one is 800 MHz and the other is 1600 MHz (as expected). Why is it like that?

OK. Better. First, uncheck auto VID. You tested 6X and 7X and set the voltages. Since there's no multipliers between 6X and 7X, theres no "blanks" for RMC to fill in for you anyway.

I still don't get your question completely. I have an idea that might illuminate what's going on with your percent load issue. First, set up Power Save with 6X only. Now, ditto for Max Perf. with 7X only. Run a normal day at each profile separately while you keep the RMC monitoring window on top. Watch your load (I set mine to read the average) and temps as you work. Check the voltages and compare with the FIDs. You should get feel for how much "gas pedal" your CPU needs for your different apps. at both FIDs. Let me know.

Is it a problem if I can't get Orthos or Prime95 to run without them crashing in under 3 seconds? I made sure my system was plugged in and set to maximum performance, no CPU values have been altered.

Edit: NVM, it seems to be able to run the Small FFT test just fine, bad RAM maybe?

If you are using CPU Genie; I'd just let it find the voltages automatically - on the first page I think it's the second link on the right hand side.

You do have a 10x multiplier; it's all to do with IDA. IDA is Intel Dynamic Acceleration, and what that means is that if one core is doing all the work while the other is idle, it 'overclocks' itself by half a multiplier. I wouldn't set the 10x multiplier if I were you; you'll get BSOD pretty much immediately.

My P8400's been going strong on Orthos Small FFT's 0.9875v @ 8x 2127mhz clock speed.

Too bad it can't be set any lower for any of the lower multipliers.

RMClock was last updated before your processor was released. Therefore, whilst it will work with your processor, not all features will function correctly. Your processor does have IDA, it's one of the features of Santa Rosa and onwards I believe.

CPUGenie is really not that difficult to use.

    1. Open CPUGenie
    2. Select Profiles in left hand menu
    3. Top two boxes, change to profile you wish to optimise
    4. Bottom right of screen, tick box that says "Unlock voltages"
    5. Change voltages as you see fit. Test for as long as think is necessary (i'd say test for 10 minutes, if you get a problem, then try the next one up, but test for 45 minutes then)
    6. Once happy all voltages are at the right (and stable) level, go to settings option (on left hand menu)
    7. Tick the top two boxes (open on startup, open minimised).

    Simple eh.

We'd need to know a bit more about what you can't do........ unless you think diagnostics can be done from a single line that says "I can't do it"...

Ha ha, but shouldn't it be more like "My corvette wont start. It is similar to a white car."

Well I got my P8400 running at 2.16GHZ at 0.9875v, can't wait to try to go lower, which it allows me to do after setting the options from desktop to mobile in the advanced CPU settings page.

    Thanks for the guide.

How about On demand clock modulation ("throttling"), should I turn that ON ?
