Hey guys, my Mhz readout went from 100 to -0, any idea what could have caused that?

I think ThrottleStop already has this feature. Open up the TPL window and make sure that this is checked.

Enable Speed Shift when ThrottleStop starts.

This option does exactly what it says but it also makes sure that Speed Shift is enabled after you resume from stand by mode. Let me know if this works for you.

CPU voltage requirements can change over time. How big of an under volt are you using and what sort of stability testing have you done? Another thing that I just remembered is that some users were reporting WHEA errors after Intel released the original micro code update to fix the Meltdown / Spectre bug. This update was subsequently pulled due to various issues. Did you update your bios or micro code recently?

That looks like a bug to me. Are you running any other monitoring software on your computer? Are you running any sort of sand box software on your computer? Something like that or an antivirus program might be blocking ThrottleStop from reading information from your CPU. After you reboot, is it fixed or still showing -0? I have never had access to a Core i7-7Y75 for testing purposes so anything is possible. There might be some slight difference compared to other Intel CPUs that I am more familiar with. Your computer also appears to be overheating. After booting up, before doing anything, when you run ThrottleStop for the first time, is the PROCHOT box checked? That box means your CPU reached its maximum safe temperature. This should never happen while booting up unless there is a problem with your heatsink not making full contact with your CPU. Without any hardware to play with, I am probably not going to be able to fix this problem for you.

@unclewebb Yes just added the new bios that just came up too with updated microcode. Event Viewer is showing these Event ID's all the way back to September. I think its been happening since then just started to notice in HWinfo64 the L2 Cache WHEA errors at the bottom.

Anything over -50mv on the cache gives me the CPU L2 Cache Error (WHEA Error id's 20, 15, and 5. Some others in there too). The Core however can be take up rather high but it does not seem to stick. Before Flashing the Bios I was able to get -310mv on the core but nothing over -50mv on the cache no matter what the core is at. However If I don't touch the core at all I can get -100mv on the cache without errors.

HWinfo64 reports CPU L2 Cache Errors about every 30 seconds to 2 minutes when I undervolt the cache.

As far as stability I have been using OCCT and Playing Overwatch

    ---Edit Update ---

Now Errors are occurring without having TS active.

Errors Occur when TS active and no undervolt or settings are applied.

OK, I'll try that, thanks. I was under the impression that it was "modern standby" that was interfering with SpeedShift - perhaps it's actually Hybrid Shutdown instead.

    Hey guys,

I am having some issues on Cinebench with my i5-7200U. I undervolted to -0.120.1mV for cpu core, cache, and gpu. I also followed @unclewebb 's post on how to remove power limit throttling. I have also repasted my cpu and gpu. But for some reason when I run Cinebench cpu benchmark, my cpu tdp maxes out at 11W. And when I run Prime95, my cpu tdp maxes out at 18W. I really need some help with this.

It is always nice to post other system info, including system manufacturer. For example, if I have a dGPU loaded, my CPU throttles. If I have my iGPU loaded, my CPU throttles. If I only have the CPU loaded, it doesn't throttle. Different manufactures configure their systems differently and have different throttling schemes. If your system is similar in lineup to other people in this community (such as the Aspire V Nitro, XPS Series etc) they may be able to give advice.

I've never run the cinebench cpu benchmark. From what I can see in your screenshot "Cinebench 11W" Your CPU is working fine, at the rated 3.1GHz turbo, with 99.9% C0% state with no throttling whatsoever. I can't see your Cinebench score, so I can't tell if your system is lagging behind other laptopl with the same CPU. Were you expecting a higher score? Different benchmarks test different "parts" of the CPU

Prime95 will push your hardware to their limit. Your i5-7200U is eh, just about the exact same about my i7-6500U. The power consumption, specs, etc are all the same so it doesn't really matter. All I know that 18W under Prime 95 is fine for a U CPU. I'd say you are lucky your laptop even lets you draw 18W constantly. Consider yourself lucky your laptop doesn't throttle down to 800MHz. My laptop allows the CPU to draw 21W at full load under Prime 95, and 18W when undervolted. I take it you've modified the FED15950 value or something?

IMO I think your laptop is working fine. You have to understand that they are completely different programs with differing loads. That's why when I play ROBLOX my laptop runs fine but when I start cities skylines the fan begin to scream.

BTW you are unlucky in the way your CPU BD-PROCHOT limit is set to 85C Mine is set to 97C. I think a lot of people would agree that 85C for a laptop CPU is a tad hot but in no way damaging.

Uncheck Speedstep in main window. Open TPL and check off Enable Speedshift when TS starts. Uncheck TDP Level Control, Clamp option and check mark Intel power balance.
In FIVR, don't undervolt Intel GPu instead under bolt System agent and Analog IO. I feel -120mV on dual core chip is too much. I would pull back to -100mV just to be on safe side.
Don't run too much Sensor polling and graphs while running Cinebench it lowers your score.

I have an Asus Zenbook UX330UAK with an Intel i5-7200U and Intel 620 graphics with 8GB LPDDR3 ram. I'm getting an average of 318 marks for CPU on stock settings. With my undervolt, I'm getting an average of 323 marks. I did expect a bit more. The picture I took on the Prime95 was right before it throttled down because of the crappy 85C limit Asus set. But I doesn't throttle down as bad as yours. I have modified the FED15900 values. Yeah it just reduces the performance which gets quite annoying. I think the only way to bypass that to to flash a modded bios.

Thanks I will try it. -120mV is definitely high so I reduced it back to -1055mV for both cpu and cache.

Do you have cTDP based setting that allows 25W for short burst?
Sometimes you don't reach stated TDP values but you must look at stable turbo boosted clocks for longer period.

Do you work for Intel, perhaps? I think Intel or PC vendor control the cTDP.
If you were able to do it, then you have somewhat unlocked BIOS.
I feel DPTF is needed if you want cTDP settings to be applied correctly.
So what's was your peak TDP in TS after running cinebench?

Can someone help me get throttlestop to work properly on my y510p?

So far I've set the multiplier to 36 T

    and unchecked BDPROCHOT

But I am still seeing significant dips in processing power down sometimes down to 800, though not as often - temps haven't hit thermal

These are the only options I have messed with.

SpeedStep is also checked, and Taskbar as well as C1E

Nevermind, I was mistaken. I don't have cTDP set to 32W. I have my cpu power limit 1 and 2 set to 32W. After adjusting the static voltage to 1.1533V and offset voltage to -0.1709mV, I got around 17-18W but since Asus set the Prochot to 85C, it just throttles down to 15-16W and drops to 27ghz. I need a way to bypass or raise the prochot to get max performance out of it.

do you have discrete gpu?If so, lower power balance og igpu from 31 to 21.
Consider using a stand or set of bottle caps to improve airflow.

Refer previous post. Anyway changing Power balance for iGPU from 31-21 will allow your CPU to have more power than GPU. Did you undervolt iGPU as well?

I propped my laptop up and changed intel power balance for igpu to 13 and it still reaches 85C and thermal throttles. Cinebench score wise, it did not gain. I did not undervolt my igpu.

If PROCHOT value is 85C then you need to have heavy undervolts. Even with max fans I could not believe it crosses 85C.

    with throttlestop on no load

    core #0 - 57C
    core #1 - 54C
    core #2 - 54C
    core #3 - 55C

microcode is 1E I think if im reading it correctly

hwinfo is showing the core ratios at 32-34x, but the dips dont happen until under load or higher temps

That's really high temps on idle, I feel below 45C is a good temp.
Download ucode updater from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/ucode-fix-for-spectre-ht-bug-fix-and-meltdown.806451/
and see if it changes the microcode from 1E to any other.

Don't use static voltage unless you know it. Using 1.1V with -200mV is equivalent to using adaptive voltage having 0.8xxx V.
Use adaptive and bring down offset value to -80mV.
Uncheck PP0 limit, Uncheck Lock in Non turbo ratio, revert to standard/stock multipliers and cache ratio. Check mark Enable Speedshift when TS starts. In Main window, uncheck C1E,Speedstep and check mark Speedshift EPP value.
I see your CPU already has cTDP up to 25W.

Wait isn't there a disable BD-PROCHOT thing in throttlestop?
    upload_2018-2-20_17-26-12.png

Is that box checked? Iirc it toggles bd prochot, does it do anything? idk if you have tried that or not. I won't dare to do it on my laptop since under full AIDA64 stress testing (dGPU+iGPU+CPU) already pushes the CPU to about 98C.

If it works you have to be careful it doesn't go over 100C. But if your 7200U alone gets over 95C I'd consider the cooling to be downright abysmal. Actually dissipating 18W and having the CPU triggering go up to 85C is not impressive.

There are some laptops with 15W processors that never go above 60-65C. Funnily enough, big manufacturers have worse cooling than chinese knockoff clones like the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro

I did exactly as you said and got the same score but now without thermal throttle. The temps dropped from 85C-86C to 73C-71C. From the 16W-17W to 11W-12W while running Cinebench. My cpu does have cTDP of up to 25W but how can I make it run that the whole time I do the benchmark? It would probably just thermal throttle tho...

I have BD Prochot disabled and because Asus decided to limit my cpu to 85C it will probably never hit anything close to 100C.

    It change to 23....

Things seem to be working now but temps are really high.

I loaded up dragons dogma, set the laptop on my bed and let it sit for 15 min in game, but not even playing the game.

    Averaging

    96C
    94C
    95C
    96C

    Max

    99C
    99C
    99C
    99C

Obviously I shouldn't set this on my bed but I'm traveling around the Philippines and have no table in my AC room.

    Though the average is lower

    81C
    79C
    80C
    83C

Max is close to the same

    96C
    96C

After undervolting, your TDP won't reach 25W ever, unless you use p95 to kill the CPU.

That's means you were using older microcode and those are awful lot temps reading. You need to repaste and some undervolting to reduce the temps. Consider adding some bottlecaps underneath the lappie to increase airflow.

Not much I can do for re-pasting here in the Philippines on this tiny island :(

I've used XTU and reduced the core voltage offset to -0.065V same with the cache

I've stopped adjusting the multipliers in turbostop and have adjusted them in XTU to 36x 35x 27x 27x

but even with this the idle temps are the same at high 50's, actually even a couple of degrees higher, even with it raised off of the bed

Not much I can do at the moment it seems :(

I am going to have a relative send me a cooling pad, I can have them send me what i need for re-pasting, but what exactly do i need, and are there any good instructions?

I'll just use TS, but I cant revert XTU to default, what are default multiplier values for the y510p?

I'm pretty new to all this, so I'm a bit confused -- I looked at the link you provided but still don't know what the default values are for each core so i can set them properly in XTU before I delete it. Was unaware I could adjust voltage or set multipliers separately in TS

    Right now set at 36 - 35 - 27 - 27

    See these sentence:
3.2 GHz (for 4 active cores), 3.3 GHz (for 2 active cores) and 3.4 GHz (for 1 active core).
    So in TS
    1 core 34
    2 core 33
    3 core 33
    4 core 32

That's considering turbo is active though right? Could have swore they were lower initially

As long as you do not run into Cpu Power throttling or overheating you should reach already mentioned max Turbo boost. What boost you get depends on how many cores are in use.

I was getting bad throttling which is why i used TS initially and set the multiplier to 36 with disabled BD PROCHOT, but i could have sworn i had to bring it up from the 20's - but i could be mistaken. I will take a look at the link. Just trying to get things to where they were so I can use TS properly.

Just for the record, turbo is designed to always be active. Intel CPUs should be using as much turbo boost as possible as long as they are running within their temperature and power limit specifications. CPU World is a good source of info for the default multiplier specs.

    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core i7-4700MQ Mobile processor.html

At default specs, the 4700MQ should be using the 32 multiplier whether 3 or 4 cores are active.

Your screenshots show your CPU running at its maximum rated speed. Power consumption is not important as long as the CPU is not throttling. If the PROCHOT temperature has been reduced to 85°C and it starts throttling then, there is nothing that ThrottleStop can do about that. You usually need to modify the bios to get around that issue. Turn on the Log File option if you are having problems so I can have a look at what speeds your CPU is running at. Also turn on in the Options window, "Add Limit Reasons to Log File".

Maybe. It depends on what you were fiddling with. Post some screenshots and log file data if you are having any problems.

What I meant when I was fiddling with TS was, I just tried clicking limit reasons and found the RING EDP OTHER in yellow.. Just curious what it means..

I have the log attached. I have the High Performance Power Plan and have set the max cpu state to 100%. My cpu doesn't power limit or thermal throttle according to TS. The max temp is 68C. Max TDP is 14.1W. So what could be the cause of my cpu being throttled at 92% by Windows?
