Well, nothing will happen with sales or partnerships with amd until the waters are cleared out when it comes to intel and chip-classes. Lots of people have wondered why we haven't seen any more systems created from scratch to have cpu and gpu cores running on the same physical cores, interchangeably, for example. ..That's about lawsuits and intel.

And I don't think anyone is going to want to touch amd until that's settled. If it ever is.

I still think its weird to see Brazos in a 15.6" notebook. I guess 15.6" really is the best selling notebook size even if its using a "netbook" APU. Then again, most average users probably wouldn't even notice the difference.

Shocking! I wonder what will happen to AMD?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

i can't figure out why toshiba bothered with a respin... what was in it for them to gain?
dunno about these thinkpads. for the dedicated graphics versions, need some realworld feedback.

can we all just get together and boycott 1366x768? i am just sick of seeing every blasted "new" notebook with that equation . just say nyet

Nvidia ION, ARM for laptops, MISP based thin-clients, OpenCL based operating systems, GPGPU instruction sets and CISC convergence, explicitly parallel instruction set computers, CELL in general applications, etc.

Ring a bell? Very likely not. And at least one of those were trashed because of a lawsuit/patent claim by intel. There's a very good reason why Tegra chips never turned up in laptops. And why there's literally two different modules embedded on an amd apu chip, rather than that it would simply be made up of general programmable "cores". Not practical ones, apparently.

Also, A10-4655 is really feeble in comp. with A10-4600?

    P.S. Created a table with all A10-4600M laptops i've found (14"-15.6").
Colors - my own preferences, don't care.

First of all, I just want to thank all of you guys for showing interest in this topic & contributing to this thread. I didn't realize (maybe a little) that we'd have this many views & interested individuals in AMD Trinity notebooks. The posts contributed, no matter how insignificant, are appreciated & have helped generate conversation & interest. Its nice to have a place like this where we can discuss these things openly & learn from each other. Let's keep this good thing going. I know I'm getting ahead of myself right now but I'm already thinking about AMD's next generation APU notebooks & eventually creating that thread too. Exciting things are sure to come.

Thanks again Guagamela, I've added & will bee adding those new reviews & links. My home internet is down for a few more days so I'm stuck posting from my smartphone. Doh!

I really like my ThinkPad Edge. Sure its not the best at a lot of things but it wouldn't stop me from recommending the brand or model to anyone. Those Toshibas have nice "stylish" designs with keyboards that are actually pleasant to type on & touchpads that are actually responsive & accurate (I've used some in person). Yes they're a bit cheap feeling though because of the plastics & they're definitely targeted at an audience that isn't going to care a whole lot about techinical specs but is more price conscious. For general purpose use & someone on a low budget, they're fine balanced machines capable of handling most every task with ease & they actually do sell. Of course I would like to see someone make something more impressive though. Remember, we are in the minority here.

Its a mystery to us but its probably just about money. Corners will be cut & the display is one corner that has mostly been the sacrificial lamb. With the increase popularity in mobile computing (ie tablets & smartphones), higher resolution/quality & more efficient display are sure to make their way into the notebook space. I think its just a matter of time. I think manufacters have listened but adoption to something is usually slow. Some people simply don't care & don't know. For those that do, there's options but it just isn't tied to what AMD is putting out. I see no reason why an AMD powered notebook can't have a great display. Instead its almost always been associated as low-end budget computers with low-end components. I simply don't agree with that model either.

I had no idea, I've got much more to learn. Then I wouldn't be surprised if Intel's influence in the industry is what's really limiting the production of some neat AMD hardware.

Yes, as far as we know the 6475b is only APU graphics (no discrete graphics). I wish the price was much less & that HP would offer sales or even those 33% off coupons as that would make it one of the most attractive Trinity notebooks so far (1600x900 14" display, great keyboard with trackpoint, great port I/O selection, I assume good battery life, business-class quality & support to name a few) but because of the cpu/gpu performance, its price is a bit steep for what you get. Then again, look at what people are paying for thin & light Ultrabooks (less cpu/gpu performance but super thin designs).

You beat me to this. I was going to post a list of the "top most wanted" Trinity notebooks. This is a great idea to start with. I was also thinking of other categories like "lightest & cheapest" Trinity notebooks too. Meh, just something to consider.

You forgot about the HP ENVY 6z Sleekbook (A10-4655M). The new 25W A10 compares well to Llano 45w & 35W A8s in graphics performance (I think it has slightly surpassed it too). Although I'm sure an overclocked Llano quad will beat it in cpu performance. So far though I haven't seen that comparison in benchmarks.

    Yep, thanks.

Any ideas about HP Pavilion dv6z-7000 cost?
It's big (15.6") but have fullhd matte screen and powerfull graphic (7730M).
    For example, HP Pavilion DV6-7000 (i7-3610QM & GT650M) costs ~$1200.

I think we have to :
    a) Inform everyone around us that google is providing an IPS display in a 200 USD tablet (7 inch, 1280 x 800, Nexus 7) while we are paying 1000+ USD for TN crap. This is UNACCEPTABLE in 2012.

    b) We must NOT in any way BUY a TN panel laptop (yes, I totally agree with boycotting, but not the resolution itself, rahter than the panel technology).

I'm already on this wagon and I promised myself that my next laptop will have a GOOD screen that I can work with my photographs on, and a matte surface that I could use out in the sun! Right now the options in the sub 13 inch category are limited to.... 3 only and i HOPE AMD is listening. Even a 14 inch with IPS panel, A10 and decent battery life would be an ultra hit in my opinion. Look what is happening with the ASUS UX32VD sales to see the potential of such a laptop... Thankfully more and more users are turning their back to crap panels! Let's be part of them!

well after Retina and Asus going for 1080p screen in a 11" and tablets consistently being higher resolution than laptops

THEY MUST GET THE PICTURE SOONER OR LATER.
Simply OEMs have been dragging their releasing cheap stuff for years and now that their revenue is under attack I hope that something comes out of this
This should of happened in 2010. bah.

I don't think they will as they weren't mentioned as being a partner this time around. I added Dell to the list because of their past Llano notebooks (speculation) but it looks like we won't be seeing any Dell Trinity notebooks.

    Good news everyone!
(You just read this in your mind with the voice of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth from Futurama)

Notebookcheck.net already reviewed the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E535 and despite the APU having problems and not using Turbo - something that could be faulted to the test unit - it got a really decent score of 81%!. I wonder what the score would be if they didn't had those problems. It's the first Trinity notebook with a 4-star rating and obtaining it in such a demanding review site just makes this result the more impressive.
For those who don't know Notebookcheck.net probably makes the most comprehensive notebook reviews around.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E535 Laptop Review.

After reading yet another review were the AMD APUs didn't shine I just have to wonder why the hell review websites aren't receiving review units with the most powerful APUs and with mature drivers? The bad results that APU powered notebooks get are usually derived from the reviews being of the weakest APUs and because there always seem to exist glitches with hybrid crossfire or something like that.
Is it that hard for AMD to instruct their partners to send review units with no dedicated graphics and the A10 APUs to review websites?? If all they did was that, there would exist a much more positive word of mouth about Trinity APUs.
For example, there's already a bunch of reviews of the Samsung Series 5 13,3'' ultrathin with the A6 APU, yet no review of the 14'' ultrathin with the A10 APU which is a lot more powerful and would probably shine a lot more in reviews.

Here's another comparison between Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge and Trinity chips from a french website.
You can either translate using google or just look at the graphs.
It seems no matter what, you MUST run any Trinity or Intel system at dual channel mode, otherwise you might half the performance of your system....
A10, as usual looks like a very tempting all rounder.... (A8 is not bad either)

    Performances jeux : F1 2011, Civilization V, Battlefield 3 - CPU mobiles : AMD A8 et A10 contre Core i5 et i7 (Llano, Trinity, Sandy et Ivy Bridge) - HardWare.fr

That's really comprehensive and it's nice to see Llano, Trinity, Sandy and Ivy side by side. It's sad that the A10 doesn't quite catch up to the i5-2410M in CPU tasks, although it shines when it comes to gaming.

Probably around $500-700 depending on the specs. I think you can spec out a A10/1080p/7730m/backlit keyboard model for under $800 if you use a 33% off coupon that HP occasionally releases.

    Hi!
Did anybody knows about discrete videocard in Samsung NP355V5C. Is it switchable in bios: APU/APU+discrete?
Or may be you know another good cheap 15.6" laptop on A6-3420m or A6-4400m without discrete graphics or with switchable card in bios (preferable without preinstalled Windows)?
    Thanks!

Well, I don't think no one following this thread has that notebook but you should be able to switch the graphics cards...
It has a 7670M as a discrete graphics card and the IGP of the Trinity. Supposedly those two are very close in terms of performance so they should crossfire decently well!

In here you have a user mini-review of the Samsung NP355V5C S01UK. It seems to be a good notebook for the price Samsung is asking for it.

Found a bunch of new Trinity notebooks from Packard Bell. PB is the budget brand of Acer. These are probably the cheapest A10-4600M notebooks around: 449.00£. There's also a A8-4500M for 399£.
Packard Bell EasyNote TV 15.6-inch Laptop.
Packard Bell EasyNote TV 15.6-inch Laptop.

Compared with the Samsung 355VC it has less 2Gb of RAM and less 250Gb of HDD. So I wouldn't say they're exactly the best choice but for that price usually notebooks are mostly crap.
At least we are starting to see 15,6'' budget notebooks with Trinity APUs instead of Brazos APUs...

Wouldn't mind seeing some Trinity ULV/LV APUs in netbook chassis though.

To be honest I was wondering about the same thing.
However, judging by the Starcraft II performance it must have been single channel memory. The reason I'm saying this is because I've played Starcraft II with middle settings all the way to the end of the game on a... AMD Brazos 1.0 E-350 CPU with 4Gbs of ram and the game at 1024x768 was perfectly playable even at the final battle. If this is possible on the Brazos 1.0, then I would expect a lot more on Trinity. If that's the case with their test system it seems they were running in single channel AND probably had some driver issues... By the way it was really cool playing Starcraft on the little 11.6 Brazos laptop.... Will we see a Trinity ULV 11.6....? AMD, if I want a 15.6 to play games I'll probably get an ivy bridge with dedicated GPU.... The game changing chance for AMD is elsewhere... Let's be patient and I hope some good things will come...

I don't think they were using two sticks. The CPU-Z screenshots show 4GB of RAM total and the next one shows a 4GB stick in slot one.

Usually these sites test the notebooks as they receive them from the OEMs. It's not their obligation to tweak them.
AMD or the OEMs should be the ones to make sure that they receive the best possible machines which they seem to be doing a -poor job.

^there are - were, at least - a lot of review-sites that would do that, and document what they did to achieve the results. Much better than having a strange pre-packaged setup from AMD that performs better than the units people buy later. It's not like it takes a very long time, either. Tomshardware still tends to have the best tests because they do things properly.

But.. when the "buzz" depends on a company's willingness to bribe bloggers to write positive reviews. And people in general actually prefer some airhead writing about how "boost" and "hyperthreading" impresses them in completely unspecific ways, instead of running any actual tests -- then the situation is different. And companies fail to sell even if they actually have a good product.

Honestly, I thought that wasn't such a problem with PCs, since the market in general is better informed about technical things than others. But that's not really true. There's a huge and significant amount of nerdcore folks who only care about gimmicks and brand. Because they're just lazy, and don't want to figure things out. Take a look at Gawker and Anandtech, for example -- can you usually tell from just reading the articles whether they are based on facts? Or is it really more about creating a plausible explanation for something we're presuming is true? In that case, do we know where those assumptions come from? The pdf that came with the press-release, for example..? That happens pretty often, unfortunately..

    As said above
AMD+OEM need to send a product worth reviewing to reviewers.

3 days later and it appears the tables have turned, sort of. The Samsung ultrathin 5 series with the A6 (13.3") is now $630 and the one with the A10 (14") is now $900. I guess you really gotta watch those sales.

Whoa, 14" A10 was down to $700 just a couple days ago, pretty reasonable for what you get. Sorry, but A10 isn't worth $900 I don't care what form factor it's in. Whatever happened to the $500 "thin an light" notebooks they were promising? AMD's A6 GPU is a far cry from Intel's HD 4000 so I don't know how they can expect to compete? A10 is the best option yet they are pricing them in 15" notebooks for $800+

What we should be seeing from OEMs is AMD Trinity notebooks like this Acer Aspire V5.
An Intel Core i5 11,6'' notebook for 550$! This CPU is more expensive than the A10 Trinity, so why the hell aren't there comparable machines with AMD APUs.

    I'm not sure.
APU's seem ideal for netbooks or generally smaller screen type laptops - especially given their thermal envelope, energy requirements and capabilities.

Manufacturers are morons (more or less).
They botch up the cooling system in laptops in general for one thing, majority also applied the thermal paste wrong, and they use cheap materials (which further compromises cooling and quality).
What can I say... capitalism at its finest.

that Acer with a A10 for $550 would be a steal.

BUT OF COURSE IT WON'T HAPPEN
does AMD have a stigma or something

looking at quarterly results for Dell and HP, I dunno if they are going to feel like being thrillseekers in the notebook market. the handwriting is ever more clear that the desktop/notebook markets are in steep decline. my guess is they will cut quality even further to try to free up a few cents of profit, and they will cut, not expand, the number of models being offered, which does not bode well for 'oddball' AMD unfortunately.
AMD does not have a "champion" out there among the mftrs.
the decline could be the end of them.

What's sad is they still releasing underpowered brazos in full size notebooks when they should be strictly netbooks.

Modern netbooks could use something more powerful even...

11,6'' and 12,1'' netbooks with the A6 APU (ULV) instead of the Brazos APU. 13,3'' notebooks with A10 APUs (LV or regular).
Is that so hard? OEMs are completely lazy and stagnant.

I read a few days ago a former PC insider's opinion on the PC industry. He basically said that some companies will leave the business and it will shrink before it grows again and that's mostly dependant on how Win 8 and hardware go hand in hand..

Feels like iPhone again, so many years Mobile phone manufacturers were overcharging for crap phones then BOOM iPhone comes out and its do or die, Palm fell, RIM is falling, Nokia just scraping by.

it's do or die time for PC industry!
Maybe AMD will shine in convertible Surface-like tablet.

    Amen to that!

Wouldn't an A10 powered Lenovo X230 be an ideal laptop? IPS display, mSata+HDD, 9 cell battery...
An A10 Asus UX31A with the gorgeous FullHD IPS panel + amazing speakers?
A premium high quality display Samsung with an A10?
For now AMD is shooting (again) itself on the feet.
AMD sells A6s and A8s to 14 and 15.6 laptops which sell north of 700USD.... Well done... Such a promising APU only found in laptops with form factors where Intel + Nvidia are dominating (I would take any day an Ivy bridge + GT640 over anything AMD is offering).
    Such a shame...

Acer V3-551-8887 with a8 for 429 at BB. I haven't found a good review of a10 vs a8 so do you think the $150 price difference between this and the m6 is justified?
