There's a service manual detailing how to remove the optical drive if that's what you're looking for... then you just need to get that little micro SATA to SATA adapter and you're set.

Let's get that new Sammy and the Summit into the mix toot sweet! OK, I know they are a rebrand, but still, prices may be different. Let's hope not like Kingston's are different. Kingston's are HIGHER than Intel. I'll never figure THAT one out
Right now, I'll take an Intel 160 for the current price of the 80, or a 128 Samsung/Summit for under $300. Those are my limits and I am sticking with them. I am beginning to suspect that R and D has been paid for and the prices are simply artificially high for reasons of pure profit. Which is OK, when I am doing it, but not when it is being done TO me

Wowza, look at the combo discounts available for SSDs with Intel's i7 920 CPU:

One of them is a $100 discount if you buy a 256GB titan, though. If I were putting together a desktop, that'd be tempting.

I would rather take the Corsair if I wanted the $100 rebate.

Hmmm... don't know what drive it is for though. Does anyone know if there is any firmware update that should be applied to the Samsung 64GB SLC drive that I bought from Geeks? I would imagine various MCCOE64G5MPP drives have different -extensions on them to denote F/W, revisions, and possibly date codes.TidalWaveOne said: ↑So that seems to be the 64GB SLC Samsung from Geeks. Not knowing whether the Dell supplied drives are the -0VA variant or not, I couldn't point you in the right direction.
F/W revisions won't apply themselves to the targeted hardware if they're not compatible with them though, so I'd *imagine* you'd be safe in trying. -
Do any of the Samsung websites have their own support site w/ firmware updates?
-
Thanks. I imagine I'd be OK in trying too... but I am not sure it is worth the risk. I really like these drives and don't want to mess up my main system so I think I'll pass unless I can get better info from somewhere.ofelas said: ↑I would imagine various MCCOE64G5MPP drives have different -extensions on them to denote F/W, revisions, and possibly date codes.

Might want to consider the 120GB Vertex. It is down to $295 after rebate on ecost.com... so getting close to your limits!Cape Consultant said: ↑Right now, I'll take an Intel 160 for the current price of the 80, or a 128 Samsung/Summit for under $300. Of course the Vertex has not been "proven" yet, like the Intel and Samsungs and it's a little smaller than 128GB. -

darQ96, have you noticed anything different? Did you have any issues before?

Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I just ordered the cosair 128gb from newegg for $317. I don't need the fastest and I really need the extra space over the intel. Also, it has very low power consumption. I didn't want to take any risks with the ocz.

Yeah, I'd like to know too. If there isn't any sort of improvement, I'm probably not going to bother flashing mine. Did you do a set of before and after benchmarks?sgogeta4 said: ↑darQ96, have you noticed anything different? Did you have any issues before?Click to expand...
Solid choice. I've had the 64GB variant for a few weeks now and it's been great.Darth Bane said: ↑I just ordered the cosair 128gb from newegg for $317. R/W speeds look same to me, and I think processor time went down by few %
main difference is that diagnostics don't show reallocated sector count error no more, so, I think s.m.a.r.t. feature is updated...
so, no big performance boost

Yeah, it's in the same Samsung first-gen MLC series, just not a re-brand. It's MMCRE64G5MPP. The performance is basically on par with the equivalent SLC (and identical to that of the 128GB MLC)/
-
Weren't those 90/70 MB/s R/W (MLC), while SLC is 100/80 MB/s? Not that there is a real difference though, just curious.

I hate such graphs. Mine are a straight line. I always distrust some funky up-down-graphs somehow
-
Interesting, my X25-M and Corsair 128 both had straight lines (even counting the 128's big jump in the middle of the HDTune run, after the jump the line remained steady) whereas the JMicron based SSDs like the Core V2, Solid and Titan all had the up-down-graphs... I assumed the Vertex would be similar to the former but I guess not. What sort of patterns are the new Samsung 64gb SLC owners seeing?
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
slc normally always is straight line. haven't seen any different one yet.
some older ssd i once used (the stuttering jmicron thing) has up-downs from 20mb to 50mb. that thing was terrible in todays standards
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I've got a straight line on my Samsung 64GB SLC and my Samsung 64GB MLC... and my poky Transcend 4GB CF. What causes that big jump in some otherwise straight HDTune graphs? That's always kind of baffled me.
-
I have no clue but it really annoys me. Not only do I have this problem with HDTune but also CrystalMark etc. The numbers vary wildly. I am going to hazard a guess that it's all the stuff running in the background.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
looks like your samsung has some stutterings

No matter how many times you ask that question, I don't know the answer to it ...
