I had just bought an ASUS F3Jc with an Nvidia Geforce Go7300 PCI-E...and I would like to know whether it is possible to upgrade to another video card which is of the type Geforce Go!!
-
-
... and you wouldn't be surprised if I told you that you cannot do that ...
-
can i upgrade my integrated video card? because it sucks...
-
Well, I guess people can be creative sometimes, but how successful that would be is another story...
-
Lol so I guess I should get a laptop with a pretty high performance graphics card. Like the Inspiron 9400. It comes with Geforce Go 7900 Gs. It can also be upgraded so thats good.
-
Thanks Dreamer..this should stop the repetitive threads

Can i upgrade a 6800 go to a 7800gtx or 7900gtx ? on a alienware m-7700-mj or something like that the socket 939 alienware laptop.
-
yes, its upgradeable:
Clevo D900K upgrades:
- CPU: AMD Socket 939 (supports single-core and dual-core Athlon64/X2/FX's and Opterons)
- RAM: 2 slots of SODIMM DDR400
- Videocard: 6800 Go (DDR1 and DDR3), 6800 Ultra, 7800 GTX, 7900 GTX, 7950 GTX, Quadro 1500M, Quadro 2500M
The prices for these videocards (from RJtech.com):
- 7800 GTX 256MB DDR3 (for Clevo D900T/K) - $460
- 7950 GTX 512MB DDR3 (for Clevo D900T/K) - $549
As you can see, they are NOT CHEAP... technically the price of new 8800 GTX's -
ok thanks a ton gophn, because i can that alienware for cheap from my friend for $1500, and just upgrade the broken video card (thats why its cheap
).
-
You have to remember to flash the BIOS to make sure that it supports the newer videocards.
-
Just for people I don't believe before I called saw this positing of laptops ca not be upgraded I was told by a couple of people at Compaq I could change he video card. Come to find out after re-checking with them that anowner can NOT upgrade on either the HP or Compac excdept for 1 model after your purhase. Isit impossible NO BUT you would have to unsolder the built in video board an modify the circuit and find a video board that would work all the while voiding your warrenty. Best to pay more upfront and get the best video board you can.

I recently purchased a $2500 Dell e1705 for $1900 on a TV special. It has 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.84GHz processor ("performance rated" at 2.74GHz). My one issue with the computer is its mediocre ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 w/ HyperMemory. 1, it's a middle-of-the-road card anyway, and 2, "HyperMemory" means its only 128MB dedicated, the other 128MB comes from my system RAM (which is OK, I guess, since I've got so much to spare). I would like to upgrade to the GeForce Go 7900 GS Dell also offers as an option on this model. The indication I've gotten is that it IS possible to upgrade IF the upgrade card was originally offered on the same notebook. Is this true? If so, must the new piece be purchased from Dell or can any Go 7900 GS be purchased from other retailers? Also, does my four-year at-home service cover a technician installing said card? Thanks in advace for any help.
-
1.) Yes you can install the gs in your notebook
2.) You'll need to get it from Dell's spare parts or another source that sells Dell GPUs because they are proprietary.
3.) I don't think that installation would be covered. You could ask I guess. -
With your notebook it is possible I believe. But it'll totally void your warranty and you have to do it all yourself.
-
You can upgrade it yourself (there are guides on Dell's site ) and I don't think that will void your warranty if you follow the instructions. Contact Dell for more information.

I have a question that I'm sure has been answered a million times, but I'm not able to find an answer for it. A buddy of mine has a Dell E1705 and when he initially purchased it, it came with the Go 7800 (vanilla). He is claiming that it is possible to upgrade to the newer 7900 gs that come in the current E1705s. Is this even possible to do? I'd always assumed that what you bought is what you get when it comes to laptops.............well, until ASUS comes out with its external GPU.
-
Yes, it's possible, but only if you purchase the part from dell and it's a part that would normally be configured in an e1705. I think it's quite pricey too.
-
Well, the E1705 is one of the notebooks that have upgradable video cards.
-
Yes, as JacktheCrow has mentioned, it is possible. Some notebooks do have features like this, where they can upgrade thr graphics to ones that were sold as an option. Dells have used this sort of upgradeability system for quite a while, as it is cheaper for them to replace the cards that way. But still, the vast majority of notebooks, don't support upgradeable graphics.

Thanks! Link GPU Upgrades specially helpful. I am however having difficulty locating the x1600 online after searching. You have web retailers that stock notebook video/graphic cards?
NBU -
And so, you cannot upgrade your video card. -
OK Thanks
Options: Replace Mother Board? Replace Notebook? -
Buying a new notebook is the only way if you want a better video card.
-
Just a question:
My Acer Aspire 5680 has a dedicated GeForce Go 7600 @ 128mb on a PCI Express bus. 1) Is it MXM-compatible and 2) can I bump it up to a 256mb GeForce? -
Err, no and no. Sorry.

How about the Dell XPS 1210? Does it have an upgrade option?
I know it is not listed in the sticky as one of the laptops with upgradeable GPUs. However, one of the sources on the sticky is a Dell support web site that shows how to remove the video/thermal cooling assembly for the XPS M1710. There is also a similar web site for the XPS 1210.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1210/en/SM/coolass.htm
Thanks in advance! -
The Go 7400 is the only dedicated card that Dell offers for this noteboos, and basically you cannot put anything else in it.
Other than that, you cannot expect that you can have a 12" notebook with better dedicated video card consideing that the XPS1210 is the only one with such a card. -
Hi...Could you tell me whether I can upgrade my ATI MR X700 to X800 or possibly higher one? And if so...would such a upgrady be worthy? Yet, where could I get etter card?

Hi there, i have a PowerBook G4, the 15-inch / 1.5Ghz model with ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 *64MB*, is it possible to upgrade it?
UPDATE: The card slot is AGP -
Hey, quick question about the dell e1750. It says there (in the hardware upgrade site) that the 9300 (E1750) has the nvidia cards (7800, 7900) and the 9400 has the ATI cards. I am a bit confused, because on ebay some listings show the 9400 having the ati cards. Can i upgrade the ATI to an nvidia card?
-
if you have a express slot you may soon be able to install a external video card http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=5369

I want to clarify with you some info I found. Based on my research I believe that you could still install a better graphics card depending on the chipset your computer uses.
If you have intel gma 950 graphics card but the chipset you're using is intel mobile 945GM you have another PCIe x16 slot where you could install another graphics card. you can disable it and run your new card.
So my question now is, is that one pci express x 16 slot being used by the built in gma 950 graphics card? and if not then I can install another grpahics card but what graphics card will be compatible? can anybody help?
assuming I can install an additional graphics card, what do you recommend based on:
dv6000t 2GB ram 120 GB harddrive, core2duo 2.0, vista, anything else?
please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this info, and I appreciate your help(s).
more on intel chipsets:

datasheet for mobile 945gm chipset: ftp://download.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/30921903.pdf
( okay I don't even know what I know anymore, I get very obsessed over every single detail. PLEASE HELP) -
Sadly enough...notebooks are not as upgradeable as desktops. If they were, desktops probably wouldn't even be sold anymore!
Example: I get an e1705 with the GMA950. I cannot upgrade the chip, as there's no slot (since the mobo design is different). If I purchase one with the X1400, I could in theory upgrade to the 7900GS...if I purchase the part from Dell or get one pulled from another e1705. If I purchase a dv6000t, I'm out of luck for an upgrade as none of HP's models (save for maybe one business one) has a modular GPU. -
one might also note that USB cannot sustain anything close to 100MBs...The 480 is marketing (lies)
Also note that Firewire, USB, and Express card lead back to the haggard PCI bus, which is already so busy it just cannot get to your requests in a timely fashion...

I'm looking at upgrading my laptop's video card.I own an hp/compaq nc6400 with ati mobility x1300 card (128mb dedicated and upto 512mb hyper memory). My question is what options do i have as far as upgrading goes,Can upgrade it to x1600/or go7600.Is the x1300 soldered on the motherboard?.The main reason for upgrade is that my graphics card does not display 1440*900 resolution at a refresh rate of 75Hz on my external lcd.I usa a vga cable to connect to the monitor.

-
No, the GPU cannot be changed. The GPU is either soldered or can only be changed with itself.(for repair purposes)
-
I noticed something strange. The horizontal lines(wavy and kinda transparent) moving vertically disappear when my laptop is on battrey. Is there a setting on my laptop that's messing the lcd when my laptop is on ac power.

If your laptop is under warranty I'd inquire with the manufacturer about sending that laptop in for repair. -
I already did that and it didn't help. Can I change some settings in the bios or do you think it is a bad motherboard or video card.
-
Hi everybody,I just wanted to ask you if there is some possibility to upgrade my video card'
I have an ASUS F3JC with NVIDIA GeForce GO7300?
Thanks a Lot! -
Have read about graphics card upgrades being near impossible but still need to know if I can. I have an Acer Aspire 1710, Pentium4, 3.4GHz with an nvidia GeForce Go5700 128MB card. I need to upgrade to a 256MB card so that I can edit my Hi Def video footage without it stuttering. Any hope for me or is it a new machine. Thanks Zol.
-
Most likely not, unless your card is seated in a special type of slot on the motherboard, also known as "MXM".
-
Coolhardy, I checked the manual of your notebook. That is a soldered GPU, nothing you can do
