not reallly, my experience is that there is some kind of complementarity
between mobilemeter and speedfan. On my current notebook I have no complains about the cpu temperature is not read correctly my MM.

Since I applied Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, in combination with a cooling pad and undervolting, I idle around 37-39*, about 40-42* when surfing the Internet.

It's not easy, but the results can be quite good, you'll see a 2*-7*C drop in temperature. The application process is VERY important. There are directions on their website on how to apply it. You can pick up a tube of AS5 for about $7 on Newegg.com for one of the smaller tubes.

The temperature of my Turion ML34 went up as the spring set in (50-57* -the fan comes on). Yet, as soon as I got this strange looking cooler, the CPU cooled down to 38-43* (all temps for light Internet browsing).

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ that idle's (I know it's hard to believe but it's true) at 28 c. I have nothing overclocked. Bear in mind that my laptop has one (of two) fans running all the time.

P.S.-I have an HP zv6000 and the hottest I have ever seen it (while gaming) is 55 c.

For me anything higher than 65C is too hot and definitely don't want to touch.
However most of the notebooks should be ok upto 100C.

    Pentium M 750
~65 degrees no OC no DC
reached 89 degrees once when gaming on a hot day, had the Asus warning message pop up.

Strange that all your readings seem to be so low. You all using the thermometer built into the CPU? Or perhaps running in the downclocked battery saving mode?

Those are not bad at all, especially your hard drive. That is exceptionally low. Different notebooks have different cooling systems and placement of parts, fans, etc, so your temperatures are going to be differnet than other people's.

The room temp these days here in Croatia is around 26 degrees C. Outside it reaches 35. I noticed that my idle temp went up a bit, but the real problem is under the 100% load. It shows 78-80 degrees now, instead of 72-74. Even with undervolting and cooler. So I guess, summertime has a significant impact on temps.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

Mine stays around 18C-27C idle and goes up to 40 after playing BF2. Ambient temperature is around 80F (~28C). I haven't overclocked or undervolted, or at least I don't think the CPU has been undervolted. According to Everest, Dell sent me an engineering sample???

That is interesting! That means that your laptop actually cools the room down on idle. Does your comp feel warmer than your hand on idle. My surely does. What does Everest Sensor say? Can you read other temps?

And my temps on GMA900 and not overclocked, but undervolted are 44 on idle.

With x700, overclocked and undervolted are around 51.

    Cooler makes things ok.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

Delete my last post. For some odd reason Everest Home Edition did not read temp right. Download MobileMeter The right temp are 49c CPU/51c HDD at idle. Temp at max is 79c CPU/58c HDD. Cpu is P3[900MHz] plugged in.

I followed Chaz's cool your laptop guide for undervolting with NHC (- ~.2v) and my highest temp so far after forcing the full 2ghz and overclocking my GPU was 117*F (47C) :D !!! it used to go up to 70C regularly. Im idling at 34C right now.

Is there any way to cool the hd?

Glad to see you found the guide helpful. I'm also searching for a solution to cool down the hard drive . . for now, I have the Pacific Breeze cooler, which does a decent job of keeping it cool (minus 3*-5*C). Mine is still around 50*-51*C however, and will idle a bit higher when it is hotter out (52*-53*C). Doesn't help that I installed an Audigy 2 PCMCIA card, which sits right above the hard drive.

At idle on AC power, core temps cycle between 44°C and 48°C. Once one core hits 48°C, the fan throttles up, running until one core falls back to 44°C. Full cycle time (up and back down) is about two minutes.

HD temp at idle sits steady at 45°C.

I'm going to have to see if I can figure out why the CPUs heat up, even at idle. I'm sure there's *somthing* running that shouldn't be, but the only things I see taking anything over occasional 1% CPU are explorer.exe and scureapp.exe, leading to a load that floats between 2% and 5%, with most time spent at 4%.

I would think that, at that level, one core should be able to shut down at idle and, with AS5, I should see stable temp in the 46°C range. Fan cycling surely can be mildly annoying in a quiet room.

System is as shown in my sig.

Depends on the cpu - p4 throttles back around 70-80c so they don't burn. Pentium-m & core duo is around 100c.

Also take note that NHC may report the wrong sensor for the cpu temp. Both my Toshiba and Asus laptop was reported incorrectly. I was thinking how cool my cpu ran until I installed Speedfan. The best way to tell if its actually reading the temp properly, it should jump in tangent with load. Use stress test such as SuperPi... The temp should instantly jump by a significant amount and instantly drop when finished. Also do it with lighter task such as playing a DVD etc.

Generally, it takes a lot to harm your CPU. What normally happens is (at worst) that the system just crashes, and you have to wait for things to cool down a bit before booting again.

I doubt any CPU will take actual damage at temperatures below 100C, probably closer to 130-150..

Its a core duo, and my gpu (a 7900gs) doesnt get real hot, so my entire lappy runs really **** cool. Plus the case has REALLY good ventilation, so that always helps. Ohh, and I am running I8kfangui , and that controls my fans and that keeps everything down while gaming.
