It's fun to look at this poll so long after I made it and how things have changed since then. Apple introduced the MacBook Air, IMO the nicest laptop I've ever seen. Also, Dell and Sony have come out with some nicer designs. If I could vote again it would go to Apple.

Did Asus really have that good of notebook design back then? I'd always thought they were pretty bland and nonexciting - but not near as businesslike as IBM either - but then again I wasn't looking at 2006 ones.

Apple I think it depends a lot on the notebook. The black MacBook and MBP aren't bad, but I'm no fan of the white MacBook. Dell has come pretty far even in the past year and a half, and Sony always is up there. HP looks nice but is a bit too glossy for my tastes. Gateway isn't half bad either IMO with the brushed aluminum.

A customized Dell is probably best designed laptop I've seen to date, and HP's with Apple logos on the back look amazing too.

I'd say Dell with what their new laptops look like. The XPS is just awesome looking. Other than that I pick Apple.

The best looking laptops for me are the limited edition Thinkpad Z-series of 2006-2007 laptops with the Titanium lid, followed closely by the limited edition S-Series back in 2001.

I'm a proud owner of a Thinkpad Z61m. Yep, it always gets a second-look in the cafe.

Hey, I was about to bash you for digging up this horribly boring thread but now that I see you have a such a good taste I won't.

For the record, I have the same Titanium lid; sadly, they don't make the notebooks that classy and durable anymore.

My laptop looks really attractive with its 27 layers of paint and red metallic fireball with chameleon pearl, changing colors from red to purple in the light. It looks awesome, but the system just doesnt work all that great sometimes, but people really do notice and stare, and it worries me, cause people in this world do steal, and it always keeps me on the edge of my seat.

this poll tells us how unpopular apple & dell is outside of USA.
and now we have the mundane notebook maker--the printer giant aka HP
crowns teh num 1 pc maker in the world.

I prefer the beautiful simplicity of an IBM/Lenovo; those look like serious business machines. A lot of notebooks nowadays are flashy and/or gaudy - though it's not as bad with laptops as they are with desktop cases (where gaudiness seems to be the rule rather than the exception).

Yup, I've always loved the "bland" black look of IBM's. Alot of people hate it, which I can't understand..?

I'll give Apple credit where its due, the Macbook Pro's have grown on me considerably since release. A very good looking piece of hardware, along with excellent quality and feel. Still a rip-off thought IMO :D

I am not a fan of this cheap, shiny look that HP seems to love. Looks way too consumerish. Bloody finger print magnets, and give off the impression that they'll break in a year.

I'll put in a vote for the Asus W3J. A few years old now, but still a great looking laptop. Love the metal lid with the power button on the side. If they changed the keyboard to something a bit better looking, then it'd be a classic.

I also like Sony's! Just too expensive for me...
