Thumbrule on this forum, never accept any claims without evidence.I've seen countless bs claims like his, when asking for actual proof you usually get squat. There are some serious problems with his claims.

For starters he has idle CPU temps of 43c, which is pretty bad. Then he proceeds to say that he only reaches 77c despite having that high idle temps, that in itself is a red flag.
After that he says he has 73c max on a 200mhz OCed GTX 980M without doing anything to voltage, which again is extremely unlikely, I've yet to see a single 980M that actually runs on 1350mhz boost clock without changing from stock voltage.

There is also no indication on how the hardware runs, if anything is throttling or not, since again, no proof whatsoever has been provided by the person. Not only that, but then he keeps raving about how great his notebook is, showcasing some serious bias towards his notebook.

Again, if you don't want to believe, waste your time with liquid metal and see your high temps. After that maybe you'll start to understand whats going on.

You got point here, but I am really out of other options...I really don’t know how to modify my heatsink...
Just don’t see other options than liquid metal or cooling pad...
What’s your vision of modding the HS?

Well I do it to the extreme, my P375SM-A has a 4hheatpipe, 2 fan and 2 heatsink setup to cool the CPU alone, while I'm currently building a vapor chamber heatsink for my GPU since I want my temps to get around 50s.

There are 3 options You would have to reach optimal temperatures i'd say:
    - Custom Water cooling (makes the notebook useless on the go tho, at least when you need the performance on the go)
    - Custom Vapor chamber
    - Getting a 2nd/much stronger fan into the system, improving the airflow. (this one is the easiest to do, since the other 2 options require some tools and knowledge)

Either of those would likely improve your temperatures rather drasticly. if you opt for 1 or 2, you could overclock your CPU as well, I could make you an unlocked BIOS for your system, which would allow for overclocking.

Offering to make a special unlocked bios for my system is very kind of you, but I don’t consider myself by any means capable of doing something even close to option one or two...
As much as it goes for the third option, first I have to find a place in the laptop where I could possibly fit a fan, but now even this seems hard to do it, as long as I use HDD in the DVD bay...

Not entirely, you can actually fit a 120mm desktop fan right under your single fan, which would improve airflow drasticly.

You would just need to steal electricity somewhere.

Powered by usb, I suppose? I could try to make this actually.

Remember when making the fan tho, you will need a 5V 120mm fan.

You should make a thread about it IMO, many people would flock to it just to see your accomplishment.

Let me finish it first, right now I'ts kinda half assed, temps are decent but nothing impressive.
Also trying to do some experiments with a custom IHS if that does something.

Need to wait stuff to arrive from china, which already takes several weeks.

ZBook 17 fan - 6~8°C compared to the stock 8740w. I'm running this setup. Requires cutting of the ZBook fan and rewiring it.

As for liquid metal - I saw quite the difference between CLU and GC Extreme, but it dries out REALLY quickly. Even with layered (lack of better word for dried/fused CLU on the heatsink) CLU it only lasted couple of months before the performance deteriorated. It's pretty awesome while it lasts, hopefully it would last longer for you.

Maybe your heatsink was poor fitting, I have had CLU on my Alienwares for years, only one dried out, and it is because I changed the thermal pad covering CPU phases to something too thick, air introduced and when combined with the heat, accelerated the oxidation process and "dried" out the CLU

CLU is not an option for me, I don’t want to put my laptop at risk.
Now the temps with TG Kryonaut seem really sweet- ~80C max CPU and 72-75 max GPU.
What kind of modification needs to be done on the Zbook’s fan? Can you post some photos if available? 6-8C sounds great!

You are right - not so much the fitting (probably it as well, although it seems pretty level), rather heat. Most of the aftermarket GPUs require manual fan control, and I put it on lowish rpms, for everyday use. If a background process starts and I'm not around to ramp up the speed, the temps go sky high. Once such occurrence happens, the deterioration is on and pretty steep downhill from there on. Never got the chance to try it with auto fan, so I gave up on the third try. That's my CLU story and my machine. Even with auto fan it would eventually hit temps that would deteriorate it faster, so yeah, at least for now it's not for me. Would love to give it another go with better cooling.

It's not that scarry, but I won't force you to do anything you don't want.

Great news! Happy that you are seeing better temps.

    Check it here.
