Was someone able to compare both laptops? I own a 2530p sl9600 and I want to upgrade to an 2540p i7-640lm, mainly because of performance reasons and the 2530p sometimes gets really warm on the palmrest. Mine ist undervolted to 0,925 / and 0,9375V. So anybody knows how these 2 compare in terms of heat/(fan)-noise and performance?

I remember some guy comparing the 2540p vs the thinkpad x201s and saying the 2540p was much louder compared to the thinkpad (elitebooks are noisy most of the times) but I can't find the link.

If you already undervolted the sl9600 there's not much you can do, I had my 2530p @ 1866 (9.25v) and it was bearable. I had a 2560p until last weekend and its noisy too so my recommendation would be to stay with your current machine (undervolted) and get an ssd. The jump to the 640lm is not so big because you have the SL9600. I dont know the things you do in your computer but I believe the ssd will give you the performance you are looking for. The 1.8" hdd is the bottleneck in both (2530p/2540p) systems. Also the 2530p is more portable and in my opinion the best 12" computer hp has done.

Feel free to correct the grammar, learning from mistakes is the better way to improve.

Yeah, actually I think about buying a Samsung 830 SSD for the 2,5" bay or a Crucial M4 msata + adapter for the 1,8" bay. But I read that the m4 isn't as bugfree as the 830 and the msata ssd drains 1,5W in idle mode. This is even more than my Toshiba 1,8" hd.

Try the intel or samsung in the 1.8" formfactor. Or do you have a 2.5" bay in your 2530p (no DVD-RW drive)?

I have the original 2,5" adapter bay, so I can add the samsung 830 2,5" ssd. But an answer to my initial questions would be nice. Anyone was able to compare those 2 notebooks directly and what about the heat?

I can't tell the difference between the two. I only "upgraded" after buying a ZR2440w monitor and discovering it has no VGA port. I haven't even bothered to swap the SSD into the new one....

    Would a 2530p lid and lcd fit a 2540p?
