    Hi,

I read reviews of 8440p that say it doesn't have the greatest LCD screen in the world. I like sharp, vibrant screens and that was a disappointment for me. However, reviews of 8440w say the screen is good. Are the screens different or just reviewers not focusing on the screen as much?

Also HP is very confusing. The hp.ca website says 4.6lbs for both 8440p and 8440w (the ones with the i7, not the models with i5). However, every other review and website that sells the computers says 5.3lbs. Which is accurate?

    Thank you!

Most 14" laptops have poor or average screens only. As for weights, trust only reviews or users with a scale since all companies are notorious for inaccurate weights.

Couple things that can be seen from the Service Manual downloadable from HP website.

First that looks like 8 different screens, but actually I think it's just 2 types of panels: HD and HD+ resolutions. Rest differences are not panel-related: with or without webcam and either for p or w series (the display chassis itself looks different outside).

(1)Display assembly - 14.0-in, antiglare display for use with computer models equipped with
WLAN and WWAN capability (includes 3 transmit/receive WLAN antenna, 2 transmit/receive
    WWAN antenna, and cables):
14.0-in HD AntiGlare LED SVA (1366x768) for use with HP EliteBook 8440p594087-001
14.0-in HD AntiGlare LED SVA (1366x768) with webcam for use with HP EliteBook 8440p594088-001
14.0-in HD+ AntiGlare LED SVA (1600x900) for use with HP EliteBook 8440p594089-001
14.0-in HD+ AntiGlare LED SVA (1600x900) with webcam for use with HP EliteBook 8440p594090-001
14.0-in HD AntiGlare LED SVA (1366x768) for use with HP EliteBook 8440w598210-001
14.0-in HD AntiGlare LED SVA (1366x768) with webcam for use with HP EliteBook 8440w598211-001
14.0-in HD+ AntiGlare LED SVA (1600x900) for use with HP EliteBook 8440w598212-001
14.0-in HD+ AntiGlare LED SVA (1600x900) with webcam for use with HP EliteBook 8440w598213-001

In the service guide there is only one type of panel listed (with 2 different resolutions):

    14.0-in SVA eDP display specifications
    Metric U.S.
    Dimensions
    Height 17.74 cm 6.9 in
    Width 31.30 cm 12.3 in
    Diagonal 35.56 cm 14.0 in
Number of colors Up to 16.8 million
    Contrast ratio 250:1 (typical)
    Brightness 200 nits (typical)
    Aspect ratio 16:9
    Pixel resolution
    Pitch0.279 × 0.279 mm
    Format1366 × 768 - HD
    1600 × 900 - HD+
    ConfigurationRGB vertical stripe
    Backlight LED
    Character display 80 × 25
    Total power consumption 4.0 W
Viewing angle ±40° horizontal, +120°/-40° vertical (typical)

Copy+paste from pdf files sucks, I hope this looks readable :)

is the screen the same? And what is the actual weight of either device?
