EliteBook Mobile Workstation - Laptops
Just ordered my 8460w: 2.2 quad core, 8gb ram. Should be a nice fast machine in a relatively small package.
FYI, the discount code CTO8460w didn't work online so I called into a sales rep who put the code in manually to get me a 25% discount.
-
Doesn't look the backlit keyboards come on any of the models listed - even the $3,499 8760W. Anyone know how long it usually takes before custom ordering is available?
-
You can configure any new model and the backlit keyboards are available for 65$ extra.
-
-
Forget the code, you'll do better calling it in or calling/emailing a rep who has given good discounts to other forum members. Last generation the best discounts given were 28% (assuming no extra discounts for delays/problems/inside connections).
-
Thanks Aikimox, I completely missed that.

I configured a 8560w to as close specs as the M4600 I ordered and with 28% off, it comes out to almost the same as price I paid Dell after discounts.
-
hmm, too bad no preconfig has ATI+DreamColor+2720QM, and customizing it increases the price drastically.
I'm still thinking I'll wait for Ivy Bridge. I also hope HP will consider putting a 3D display in the workstation one, by then. Why have a GPU that supports quad-buffered stereo, and not offer a stereo-capable display? -
Here's a good deal...$2199 for a quadcore ATI dreamcolor 8560w with 8gb RAM and 500GB HDD... http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/Mi...=3427&BaseId=36225&oi=E9CED&BEID=19702&SBLID=...although for about $200 more you can get a more powerful processor...and lose a backlit keyboard
-
well the company have ordered 1 fully kitted machine, we'll see what it's like when it arrives...
i really wish they would listen to their technicians... sigh -

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!

In that case, ignore my PM.

I too, am also very interested in locating a reliable sales representative. Or is getting the 28% discount as simple as calling 866-625-0242?
One more question, are you guys using the discount on configured notebooks only? I'm a student and it'd be very nice for me to use the discount on a cheaper, preconfigured notebook. -
hp has world wide warranty in this business laptop series ?
-
I recommend Colette Blackwell, she was terrific with my 8560p.

Unfortunately, that is only a dual core (i7 2630 QM), not a quad. Also, as a pre-configured, there is no way to upgrade the CPU. Or get an SSD. Or Broadband. OK, you can upgrade to SSD fairly easily, but the CPU and no broadband option is a deal-killer for me. Screen is right. 8 GB of ram is right. But CPU is not. -

That's a good question. Is it? -

Well, so it is. I stand duly corrected. I had not seen the *30QM promoted before, only the *20M. I've been educated today, so thank you, gents.
Now, as to solving the broadband vacancy, won't that require some fairly major surgery to install wiring inside the top/frame/display area?? Or can that be taken care of more simply? -
I still can't see them in the business to business portal, can any of you?
-
For me, I'd want the added virtualization stuff that comes with the 2720 and above.
-
Estimated Ship Date: 6/9/2011
Screw this american-style dates! Is it june or september they are talking about?
CC about worldwide warranty. -
-
FYI for anyone who wants a pre-config, they can be ordered at CostCentral for quite a bit less than going through HP directly.

Just search for 8460w or 8460w or8760w, here is an example of one on their site: HP EliteBook Mobile Workstation 8560w (XU086UT#ABA) - Laptops / Notebooks

Yes, I already acknowledged my ignorance on that point. Yesterday. No need to use derogatory language. -
-
No problem. Debating whether to order this and cancel my Lenovo x220 order. I know they don't sound very similar, but for me the attraction is a great screen on a laptop.

Ingram and Actebis started listing the LW924AW#ABD (8560W CI5-2540M 4GB 320GB 15.6HD+ W7P-64 BR-COMBO WL BT) yesterday, but no ETA and no other models listed sofar. -
Ok, my account manager says 8560w and 8760w will be available first week of June, 8460w will not be available.
-
However, I ended up returning the x220 because of heat/noise problems and the fact that it didn't perform well in games (in many cases it was worse than the Radeon 3470 in my old T400, which is considerably slower than the HD Graphics 3000 according to 3DMark). The clickpad also sucks. -

Nonetheless, I take exception to the "nitwit" comment. If it happens again I'll flag you. -
sorry...just got a little mad that something so obvious could be missed...I had meant to post the comment earlier...but someone beat me to the punch...sorry...

-
i7 2720QM and above for quad cores...don't know about duals though...
-
What do you guys think will be are a true shipping date for the 8560w?
-
wii, on June 7th I am attending the PSG Energizer here in Hamburg. The HP PSG Product Managers DACH will show the new laptops and workstations... most interesting question for me will be: what quadmodels will actually make it to the DACH market and when...
-
I'm curious about something expecially from those who need mobile internet : Is the 4G support important for you ? Do you consider this parameter ?
-
4G/NGMN? interesting of course. Here in Germany (Metro-Area Hamburg a good 3G) is still not available everywhere... and even worse when getting into rural areas. So 4G is nice, but quite a while away over here.
-
Nice, do notice if the 14" 8460w is there, I don't think it will be released in Europe, just like we never had the 8440w.
8460w, 8560w, 8760w now available
