I'm having trouble finding this out...

    Do they?

Also, what kind of touch-sensitive buttons does the 8540 have? I can't seem to find a picture of it up-close and I have no idea where I could see one of these computers in person...

No they don't on the 8540w (I just ordred one) but I just got a backlit keyboard on the 8740w -- and it is a flimsy piece of junk. I have to return the laptop fo ra whole hos to fother reasons and I am going to have them take the backlit keyboard out.

Someone responded on one of my threads that owners of the 8740w have complained about the flimsiness of the backlit keyboard. It is pretty bad. It feels like it is hollow underneath and the keybboard just presses down into the laptop.

it's too bad because I have the backlit keyboard on our new Sony Vaio Z and I absolutely love it.

(We are replacinng all of our laptops at once.)

But I clearly have a lemon 8740w which was put together with a used scratched Deamcolor 2 screen -- I am not even sure it is a dream color 2 -- it doesn't say so on it. So my experience with the backlit may be even worse than normally.

Rigth now I am hating my 8740w -- but I am sure when I get a proper one -- it will be fine.

    Thanks for the info. :)

Do you guys know any stores that would have an EliteBook in it? I kind of made a pledge to never buy a laptop unless I could actually see it in person, but I've never seen an EliteBook in a store.

I think it's unlikely unless you have a warehouser or reseller near you that might let you look at one in their offices. HP business machines aren't really "meant" to be sold through regular retail channels. I'm not sure what options you have; if we knew where you were (at least generally) we might have some other ideas, but apart from that it's hard to say.

Well, I'm actually in Palo Alto where HP is headquartered. lol But I've never known a place where you can actually see computers like that.

    Thank you very much. :)
