I have an 8540W and I want to put more than 8G of Cam.
Can you I replace the motherboard with a QuadCore with 4 Slots and place a Dual Core Processor ?

From tests with an 8740w, you could do that, but the dual core processor will only recognize 2 of the 4 slots (Yes, I know it's 16 GB in the test, but the test is using 8 GB SODIMMs).

    thats not completely true.

the dual core DOES see all 4 slots. but can only address up to 16GB.

i had to take out 2x8gb sticks in the test on that link, because the system doesn't start.

    however,

    with 4x4GB or 4x2GB or 2x2GB+2x4GB or 2x1GB+2x4GB

the system sees all the ram, but downclocks it to 1066Mhz.

Since Bios F.08 it's been stable using 4 sticks with a dual core, but it can be a bit dicey if you're using alot of ram for one application only. (example, After Effects)

I'll Update that post with all known working configs now.

    Done

Oh? Good to know. So the limitation isn't slots, but total memory. Interesting.
