    Hi,

I have the EliteBook 8540p/Win7 with Advanced docking station and HP 30" LCD connected via DVI dual-link cable. The external LCD works, but its resolution is limited to 1280x800 and I cannot figure out how to set it to native 2560x1600. The monitor is displayed in Device Manager as "Plug and play monitor", can this be the fault?

In the Nvidia panel, I tried to set different settings of more monitors, but the resolution still cannot be set higher than 1280x800. Native resolution of the internal LCD is 1600x900, so I don't understand why the external monitor is limited to 1280x800, this is strange.

    Thanks for any help,
    Petr

Make sure you use the dualdvi cable that come with your monitor.

I found that the 8540p with the advanced docking station (new 2009 model) doesn't support Dual Link DVI output, but only single link. From what I was told, the only solution is to use DisplayPort on the notebook or docking station and use a DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI converter. These converters are active, powered from additional USB port. I ordered one directly from HP, so I will see. Strange, but so far it seems that it might be true.
