I am planning to buy an Elitebook 8560W with the firepro M5950 graphics card and as long as it is this graphics card, I can get the laptop for almost 1/2 price.

Does anyone know if the graphics card can be upgraded? Does the motherboard use an MXM interface? Or is that only with Nvidia gpu's? I am hoping to upgrade to a Quadro 3000M sometime in the future.

HP have been increasingly locking down their system bios. Typically the vbios is incorporated into the system bios requiring a modification to have 100% functionality IF the system can accept a MXM gpu upgrade. The HDX9000 folks are doing just that trying to swap their 8800GTS with a GTX280M.

If you want upgradable GPUs then consider a DIY eGPU with a iGPU-only 8560P. Then you'll get Optimus performance. We've just had our first hacked x1 2.0 implementation with a GTS240. Some faster desktop cards are to be implemented and should give some very impressive performance. See the DIY eGPU link sig if interested.
