    Hi everybody,

First post.. I'm trying to remove the chiclet keyboard on the 8560W to stick in some more RAM, and it's proving to be an almost impossible procedure, without breaking my shiny new laptop that is.

P72 of the service manual: http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02844491/c02844491.pdf, gives a procedure which involves pressing on the keyboard through the optical bay hole after having loosened all the keyboard fastening screws. I've pressed on this thing til my fingers ached, and I could press more but I'm afraid of breaking the damn thing. I expected to be as simple as removing the keyboard on my old W500 which this thing replaced, but evidently not.

HP also provides a different procedure somewhere else:

HP EliteBook 8560w Mobile Workstation- HP EliteBook 8560w Mobile Workstation - Removing and Replacing the Keyboard - c02907289 - HP Business Support Center

Which also shows a video of somebody removing the keyboard. But this procedure involves prying the keyboard from the top side after having removed the screws. I tried this too but it's just as impossible, there's no space to fit anything between the top plate and the keyboard, and not at all like the video.

I know some other users have encountered the same problem ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ebook-8560w-owners-lounge-20.html#post7732544 ) which was solved by more pressing, but I'm not willing to do that.

Can anybody recommend another way of getting this keyboard out... it's pathetic I should even have to ask this for a $ 2k laptop, lol.

    Thanks for the help everybody.

sofar I´ve got around this problem - got it with 4GB installed, installed another 4GB in slot 1 on the accessible back and still waiting for our purchase department to deliver the missing 2x 4GB.

    Hello,

My problem is, that after a i removed the keyboard, and it installed +2*4 gb memory, i can't put the keyboard back to the same position. There are a small gap at the bottom, and the left side.
    Any advice about that ?

Haha, god no; breaking the bank already just for this laptop. I have a number of older 4 GB sticks of my own which I'd prefer to use in place of the factory ones, which I can then sell :p.

If your lap is powered by core i 7 Quad then there are total 4 memory slots, 2 underneath keyboard, another 2 at the back, just remove the back plate then insert 2 more memory sticks, that's it .So simple, hassle free :D

I have read the service manual you mentionedbefore, but it was not much help.

First, it contain some mistakes, like not mentioning that the hard drive should be removed before removing the keyboard in p.64 (though it is mentioned later in p.66), but that is a minor thing. The relevant points are:

    1) I think that removing the hard drive will not help removing the keyboard (though I have not tried it yet), just because the hard drive is not over (or below) the keyboard. They are totally misaligned, so I cannot see how pressing in the hard drive area (the so-called "finger hole", p.64) could release the keyboard. Unless I am deeply mistaken, that seems pretty evident. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

    2) The manual says "If the keyboard does not easily

disengage, press on the keyboard through the opening in the optical drive area". That was exactly what I did, and if you press there you can actually see the keyboard slightly bending. However, even using the full power of my fingers I could not release it, because it is *strongly* attached to the frame. And, btw, contrarily to what is said in the manual, the points where it is really tightly attached to the frame are in the borders, close to the function keys, and not in the centre.

Well, I keep waiting for more suggestions.
Please, anyone could help me ? ;-)

remove the screws under the service cover (all three as in the manual)
    remove the optical drive

i was VERY reluctant to use too much force poking with my finger through the small hole - but apparently that´s the way to go.

as with my first try it didn´t seem to work i used a 1,5mm plasticcard (hobby materials - pretty much the same stuff used for a creditcard or ec card) and wiggled into the space between keyboard and frame. ran it along that upper space from ESC to PAGE DOWN.
there are 2 or 3 small places where the keyboard seems to hold.
after that i was able to press HARD through the hole and the keyboard popped out.

    beware of the cables!

then insert the RAM modules in the second slot there.

    good luck ;)

    Hi,

    I did it !
    Many thanks for your help.

The most difficult was because specific spurs maintain the keyboard in place as you can see on the below photo.
