We have purchased a number of the above mentioned models and are having a growing problem with random capitalization almost like either the shift key is stuck down or the caps lock is triggered. This happens without any warning. We have also noticed that when this happens and if you try to click on a program at the bottom of the screen it will open another instance of the program, the start button will not function as it should and we typically have to force the unit to turn off. We have found on a couple that by turning off the touchpad makes the problem go away but only a couple this trick has worked. We have tried updating the bios with no resolution. Have tried updating any all devices with no resolution. Have reimaged with no resolution. HP has been out to replace a couple of the keyboards and has not fixed the problem. The only true fix so far has been to plug in a external USB keyboard but this is not practical for people traveling.
Has anyone seen or experienced this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm reluctant to purchase any more of these units until we can get to the bottom of the problem.

My 8460p had a different problem with the keyboard but an updated touchpad driver fixed it.
You could try something like this before sending your computer to an authoriized shop.
