I finally received my 8560w a few days ago, and i´m really happy with the performance of this machine, it´s what i had hoped for when i ordered this machine. But now i found something that makes me consider calling HP and getting a DOA ( Death at Arrival) state for my new 8560w.

It was yesterday when i accidently touched the metal surfaces of the notebooks with my fingertips. It seems there´s a little amount of electricity / static when i touch the metal surfaces. I can only feel it when i touch the notebook with the fingertips. The electricity is present on the screen housing and the palmrests / main body of the notebook and it does not matter if the notebook is runnning or just sitting there switched off. One would think there is some electricity coming from the 200w power brick.

When i unplug the power adapter from the notebook the "tingling" in my fingertips is not noticeable anymore, the static / electricity does not seem to be present anymore. So definitely something is wrong with my power supply.

Something else i noticed lets me think the power jack of the notebook must be broken or a faulty one was installed when the notebook was assembled a few days go. When i unplug the powercord from the power outlet the static is still present. So even without external electricity sources the notebook battery seems to deliver the the electricity that i can still feel on my notebooks metal surfaces. Only when i unplug the power adapter from the notebook the static is gone. I tested this with several power adapters ( 200W , 150w ,90w), and all show the same behaviour.

The above described symptoms let me think that the power jack of the notebook is faulty. So right now i´m not sure what to do about it :
Should i call HP and ask them to repair the notebook, or is it more or less a case of DOA ?

Since i didn´t take one of the pre-config models i guess i´ll have a to wait another few weeks for a custom built replacement.
What do you guys recommend ?

Should i ask for repair or a new notebook ?

Good thougt. But i´m using Wifi. So nothing wrong with the network cable.

I guess i have found the culprit. When i´m working in my office at the university there is no static / electricity.

It seems the power outlet i´m using at home is responsible. Looks like it´s not perfectly grounded - thus i´m experiencing the static on my notebooks metal parts. Even the APC- Power socket i´m using does not help a thing.

Looks like i´ll have to repair that power socket.

    mystery solved !!
