Hi does your 8560w (without a mobile broadband module) has pre installed the WWAN antenas ?

so if you just buy a mobile broadband PCI-e you can connect ?

I preconfigured my 8560w with a DC screen and WWAN - works perfect with very good HSDPA connections.

Can´t imagine a notebook without WWAN...

Check service manual, if it lists two different motherboards: one for wwan and one without then it's quite certain that motherboard is missing the sim slot, 3G modem mpcie-slot and the antennas.

The manual, or HP does not makes it clear because it refers to all possible combinations ..

The pre configured models without the mobile modole installed does nor refer anything

    ex. XU083UT , XU085UT, XU086UT or LG662EA

as far as I know both "normal" 8560w displays have preinstalled WWAN antennas, even when the WWANcard is not installed factoryside.

There has been some talk regarding the dreamcolor screen, where WWAN antenneas might not be pre-installed when not with the WWANcard factoryside.

At least in my case there are definitely WWAN antennas in it ;)

    It doesn't matter.

    (18) System board (includes replacement thermal material and VGA support bracket)
For use with dual-core processors in all countries except China and Russia 652637-001
For use with quad-core processors in all countries except China and Russia 652638-001

Those are the only motherboard options. There is no option "without WWAN". That could mean all the motherboards include sim card reader and mpcie slot for the WWAN modem.

Also there is also no display option without WWAN, all displays according to the manual have antennas inside (but missing antennas would be simple to install, soldering the sim and modem slots on the motherboard aren't).

I own LG662EA with 15,6" FHD AG RGBLED UWVA IPS DreamColor and webcam, and there are 3 wireless local area network (WLAN) antennas (despite the fact there is "only" 2x2 Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 802.11a/b/g/n card), 2 wireless wide area network (WWAN) antennas, WWAN card slot (no factory-installed WWAN card though), and SIM card slot.

There are 2 revisions of IPS panel - older one which does NOT support WWAN antennas (because of interference, can be found in older 8560w's and Dell Precision M4600) and newer one which DOES support it (only in 8560w).
You should be OK buying something from newer batches (newly introduced Intel CPU such as i7-2670QM etc.).

Is there anything one should look out for when buying a WWAN card? I have the SIM slot and antenna's om my dreamcolor/2670qm 8560w, so I'm covered on that part.

For example, could this this work? Or is it driver-wise hard to get it working on my 8560w?

Those two are the “original options” and should work.

    HP HS2340 HSPA+ MINI CARD
    QC431AA

    HP un2430 EV-DO/HSPA Mini Card
    QC430AA

I´d be careful with the Dell option. Weren´t there posts, that the 8560w only accepts HP options (like the WiFi and 3G cards)?
