Still having a hard time deciding between a w520 and the 8560w (and the Dell 4600), but after reading all the nightmares in the 8560w owner's thread, I may be leaning towards the Lenovo (again).

Do you regret buying your 8560w? Has anyone done a reliability and DOA comparison between the IBM and the HP?

    fully satisfied with my 8560w.
    no problems at all.
Display is good, overall performance is good, my SF2281 is fast.

one minus though - it´s thicker than my 8530p - but I knew that in advance and that´s fully my problem

I was able to play with both the Precision m4600 and the Elitebook. Both were solidly built, and had no problems in the time I had them (~2.5 weeks for the Precision, ~1 month for the Elitebook). Can't comment on the Thinkpad though, sorry.

I'd go for the 8560w for sure. Best laptop on the market right now in my opinion.

I've had mine for two weeks now. I was very hesitant in buying because of all the horror stories about people getting faulty units, horrible customer service, etc. but actually experiencing the process is completely the opposite. Customer service for one is amazing. I don't know if it's because I have an HP service facility in my city, but everyone's been very patient and courteous and has spoken perfect english.

As for the unit itself, it was packaged horribly during shipping (almost no padding at all) but actually using the unit has been a great experience. The trackpad is large and sensitive, the keyboard is nice and comfortable to us, and the build quality is second to none. Unfortunately, my internal wifi adapter is faulty, but I've got a tech support guy coming on-site tomorrow to fix it.

I don't know that I could go with any of the competition and be as satisfied.. It's the small things like a cold aluminum body, backlit keyboard, and a sturdy screen that really make this unit standout.

All in all I'm in love with my elitebook.. greatest all in one windows laptop ever made.

Also, I'd like to add that I've done nothing but game on this laptop since I've gotten it.. Crysis 2, CoD Black Ops, Shogun 2: Total War, etc. all run on maxed settings and most of the time without any hiccups. DX11 is amazing.

note: the fan gets loud and hot after about 30mins of intensive gaming with battery performance on high, turn the settings down and make a custom battery power plan for silent and smooth gameplay.

Even with the assembly issue (GPU heatpipe wasn't seated correctly) I had with mine, I'd still buy the same system again.

It's silly fast, has a great screen (and it's not even dream color), runs everything I need for work and play. Oh yeah, it's built like a tank too.

Best lappy I ever had in my hand :D.
Yeah, more than one reason to be curious about the new model of the w series.
Finaly I have got the maschine....and I am really happy with it. No more doubts, all fine. :)
Very powerful and fast, great Display, and a very stable shell.
    Love it...

Definitely a solid notebook but I'd get the Lenovo for the sole reason of great implementation of Optimus and hence, by far the best battery life. Though at the expense of the IPS panel (due to Intel's lack of support for 10-bit panels) and the (cheaper and more powerful) ATI GPU for obvious reasons. The HP also lacks the ability to support a miniPCIe SSD. Another pro or con, depending on the user is that the Lenovo is the only one without a numpad.

If battery life were not an issue, sgogeta4, would that make it harder to decide?

I only travel with my laptop maybe once a month and rarely use it on battery alone.

I have been going crazy for weeks trying to decide which lappy to get, it was between the m4600, w520, and 8560w and I decided on the 8560w. Dreamcolor, backlit keyboard, and the tank like body is just amazing. Can't wait for mine to ship!

Remove W520 from your list, it got too many hardware problems, it's a lousy laptop to be honest

I have heard the same thing about the W520 having just too many problems with its Optimus not working and problems with CPU throttling getting stuck on, so no thanks. And, to be truthful, I have two older T4* models and both of them had major problems.
