For the 8540w, if you select Dreamcolor, you must upgrade to a 150w AC Adapter.

Since we have both, 8740w with Dreamcolor as well - We like a lot of adaptors to put all over the place.

So I ordered a bunch of 230 w adapters assuming it would be fine for the 8540w as well. But I am finally just getting to put these babies together (I've had them for nearly 2 months) and now I am questioning that reasoning.

Is it OK to use a 230 w adaptor on the 8540w?

The issue is having enough power, right -- not a question of too much power -- is it?

Well, now you have made me glad I did not succeed in convincing the sales rep to swap out the 150w for a 230w. Now I am glad I have it. :)

Yes, the 230 watt adaptor is pretty large. I took some pictures a while back here comparing the 230 watt adaptor with the 200 watt adaptor that the 8740w comes with standard.
