Does anyone have a solution for a smaller AC Adapter for the 8740w?

I tried to use my universal 90w Targus AC Adapter that works with my Vaio Z

    Targus Premium Laptop Charger (AC/DC) | APM69US

but that did not seem to work... Is there a smaller AC Adapter available either aftermarket or factory? I am assuming 90w is not nearly enough to power/charge the laptop. My configuration is I5 with M7820

    Thanks

If you check back in the 8740w owners' lounges, both prt 1 and prt 2, there's been much discussion on this topic. But the summary is that this machine does indeed need this big brick of a power supply, especially when you are running intensive graphics with the screen at high luminance, pushing the CPU and charging the battery at the same time. Those who have tried to go with a smaller wattage have experienced throttling, especially with a 90w supply.

Since you have a 35w CPU instead of a quad, and if you have the non-DC display (though I'm not sure if we ever determined if the DC really uses more juice), you could experiment with a 150w brick. It's a little smaller (though not much) than the 8740w's. This is, of course, only if you do not usually push your machine.

with my 8560w: I leave the 200W brick in the office… and use the SMART TRAVEL 65W AC ADAPTER when on the road. Has enough power for working and even a bit of charging.

And weighs only 220grams instead of 920grams...
