    Hi,
I was think that 8740w with dual core motherboard (2 ram slots) can use max 8GB ram.
After read this post I'm little confused.

It's true that this upgrade is possible? Whats is neccessery to upgrade to 16GB (2x8GB)?

    My BIOS ver F.05

In short, dual cores = 2 dimms

    quad cores = 4 dimms

There are special cases though where the motherboards chipset simply cant enable more than its default max.

That being said if you only have 2 slots for DIMMs then you're limited to 8GB per DIMM as the 16GB dimms are for 5th gen intel chips unless I am mistaken.

So you should be able to use 16GB to my conventional knowledge.

What I get from the post is that you only need BIOS update to get 8GB DIMMs running. Quad is needed if you want them to run @1333MHz (given that your RAM of choice supports it), otherwise it would be 1066MHz. Do note that quad CPU qould require new heat-sink.

Ok, thanks for your replays. I bought for testing one 8GB stick.
With BIOS F.09 I've succeed to install 12GB RAM (8GB stick and 4GB stick) and everything is OK :)
    I hope 2x8GB also will work ;)
