    Hey folks,

I've just got a Zbook 15 G2 and currently looking for docking station as I mainly use it with combination of monitor + keyboard/mouse + speaker in my desk.
Since this laptop is quite large with its equally unwieldy power brick I figured out I'd better go with a docking for easy daily attach/detach.

I think I need the basic dock (not the advance one)

So a few internet searches suggest the suitable dock for HP Zbook 15 is the one with 230W power (it kinda makes sense since its factory power brick is 150 watt), but I also see a the 90W one is offered considerably cheaper.. and I get a vague notion that the additional power in the 230W is simply to allow you to successfully operate more peripheral items at a single time.

Since I'm not going to connect and/or daisy-chain any power hungry device, is there any chance 90W docking would be able to hold?

I would appreciate any inputs, anecdotal and arm-chair analysis are also welcomed!

    Cheers,

    Razz

The thunderbolt Dock might suit you as well, if it ever comes back on the market

Normally, I would insist on purchasing the 230W dock, because if the factory AC Adapter for your ZBook 15 is 150W, then you'll need an AC adapter that's at LEAST 150W for it to power on AND charge properly. Anything less will either A) Power on the laptop but not have enough power to charge the battery at the same time or B) Not have enough power to power the laptop at all.

In addition, the extra watts in the in the docking station's AC Adapter would normally be needed to power all the extra ports properly. However, since you stated that you weren't "going to connect and/or daisy-chain any power hungry device", there is a chance that the 90W docking station will work, as long as you use the 150W AC adapter that came with your ZBook and NOT the 90W adapter that came with the docking station. Of course, this also means that you'll have to disconnect and connect the AC adapter from the docking station, which partially defeats the purpose of a docking station.

Does the thnderbolt ZDock that's made for the G3 also work with the G2 ZBooks?
