I am going to purchase the 8540w soon but I wasn't sure about some of the following aspects:

    1. It is going to be the quad core configurable model. I was thinking of configuring it with the basic 2gb ram and then buying 16gb (4x4gb) of ram from newegg since its alot cheaper. But ive read here and there that if I do not order a configuration that has 4 memory slots from HP, then the other slots are not soldered on. Is this true for the quad core model?

    Would this ram be a good option if I were going to get 4x4gb ram? Newegg.com - OCZ 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model OCZ3M13338GK

    2. I remember reading somewhere that the firepro card was better than the quadro fx1800 despite the nvidia card having GDDR5 memory. What is the final verdict on that? If price is not an issue which card would you get?

    Thanks for the help!

    Good choice!
    1) If you order the system with quad core CPU it should come with 4 memory slots regardless of the amount of memory purchased. Doesn't hurt to make your sales rep double check it.

2)The cards should be similar in performance with a slight advantage of the FirePro in games and synthetics, but the Quadro should perform better in pro applications (significantly better in certain cases). It's up to you but whatever you choose - you won't regret it ;)
