Did anyone of you try to replace standard wireless card (like Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 or Broadcom 43224AGN) with an Intel card supporting 802.11ac like an Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 card (7260.HMW ;) ?

I have HP Elitebook 8570w and just got myself upgraded to 250 DL/20 UL Mbit/s internet connection and I'm in the market for the 802.11ac router (will most likely go with Asus RT-AC68U or Netgear R7000). For that I also need 802.11ac-capable adapter. I thought about some USB3.0 802.11ac adapter, but it is far from being convenient. So what about replacing the standard internal wireless card ? It should be possible to replace it with Intel Wireless-AC 7260 as it fits into the MiniPCI-E socket. But then I found a thread of 8560w user who tried that trick and it didn't work as the card was not whitelisted in the BIOS:

upgraded HP laptop to 802.11ac; cannot get drivers to work

But then one user reported that 8570w does not longer require HP specific wireless card:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/730072-8560w-802-11ac-upgrade-unwhitelisted-bios-available.html

There are some reports it should work for different notebookes here:

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/finally-intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-wi-fi-card-for-notebooks.68662/

There are also successful reports of Dell Latitude E6x20 & E6x30 owners who managed to replace the standard card:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/728718-anyone-put-intel-7260hmw-802-11ac-minipcie-card-their-dell-latitude-e6x20-e6x30.html

So what do you think ? Is it possible to put an Intel Wireless-AC 7260 card in HP 8x70w ? Maybe someone already tried that ?

OK, I answered the question myself. I ordered the card and it turned out there is no whitelisting applied in BIOS of 8570w. At first I thought something is wrong as Windows didn't try to find the drivers for it. But once I downloaded the newest drivers from the Intel website, the card was detected and it works like a charm showing me connection of 867 Mbit/s in PHY layer.

I'm getting full 250 Mbit/s on my broadband connection (Asus RT-AC68U router) and something around 450 Mbit/s while downloading files from my media center. Very nice taking into consideration it is wireless connection :)
