HI...is anyone using the 2012 HP USB 3.0 Docking Station with their 8760w? I am talking the basic one not the advanced one, the one with 4 USB 3.0 ports only? It is supposed to be compatible, but when I attach my 8760w, and plug a USB 3.0 hard drive into it, I get a "this device would perform faster if connected to a super speed USB 3.0 port". When I connect the drive directly to an SS port on the notebook, the drive works perfectly and at USB 3.0 speeds. HP Elitebook support has already had me update the BIOS, Renesas controller driver and firmware and try the original hard drive with fresh image. Nothing has worked. They also replaced the docking station with a new one, and it also does the same thing. They now want me to return the 8760w to have a new system board installed. I really don't want to do that but I don't have much time. If anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe this isn't supposed to work at 3.0 speeds with an 8760w??? makes no sense to me. HP website shows the 8760w is compatible with the A7E32AA dock I have. The A7E34AA dock is the one supposed to be used with this, but I believe that the only difference between the two is the basic dock is the same but the 32 ships with a 90W adapter and the 34 ships with a 230W adapter. I am already using a 230W adapter with the dock, so it is not underpowered. I am totally at a loss on this. Thanks.

Well a lot of people have read this thread yet nobody has replied....so there must not be that many people using the new docking stations. Anyway after unnecessary driver updates and unecessary system board replacements on my unit (and having the display replaced because the depot repair put a big scratch on it when doing the system board replacement), my on site HP repair rep finally found a customer advisory that they publshed SIX MONTHAS AGO yet all the phobe calls to elitebook support, NOBODY seemed to be able to find this...and I couldnt find it myself searching the HP site, but for anyone that cares, here is the link to the advisor showing the units that do NOT send out USB 3.0 support to the USB 3.0 docking stations ( COMPLETE SHORT SIGHTEDNESS BY HP) ...and of course the 8760w is one of them. Here is the link:

HP 6360t Mobile Thin Client -  HP Notebook PCs - USB 3.0 Ports on 2012 Port Replicators Are Not Supported on Previous Generation Notebooks - c03617914 - HP Business Support Center

Anyway, my case has been escalated to HP customer relations because I purchased this untit with the intent of using it with USB3.0 devies on a docking station. I am going to try, I am sure unsuccessfully, to get them to replace it with an 8770w similarly equipped, because none of their literature or website information showed ANYWHERE that the 8760w was incompatible with the USB 3.0 docking stations..in fact, they specifically say they ARE compatible and I purchased them based on this information.

Well, that saves me the trouble as I was thinking about upgrading my docking stations at some point.

Latest models have their USB3 support in chipset then, no more separate controller chip as in previous models? That would be my guess.

yes KLF that is correct. the 8770w's have the Intel USB 3.0 controller built in instead of the renesas controller. However, I think the main issue is that HP did not port the USB 3.0 bus to the docking station, only the USB 2.0 bus. RIDICULOUSLY idiotic and short sighted....but nothing in their documentation tells you that, so you buy both thinking you can use it and you cant. I have lodged a complaint and am going to ATTEMPT to see if they will swap my 8760 for an 8770 because of that...but I am not holding out hope. If they dont do that, I will go with the new Dell M6800 with super high resolution IPS panel and dump the 8760 on ebay with the USb issues and the Dreamcolor panel issues....the latest one I have (third one) has pretty good white color with not much coloration (red/blue) but the black screen now has bleed through of the backlight at various spots on the bottom. The first two had no bleed through. I just cant win and get one perfect panel. so off to ebay it will go if they dont take care of me at HP. itll be yet another lesson learned.

Thing is not always better on the other side, Dell have all the exact same issues. dell had not release the spec for m6800.

Absolutely right. In 8*60w workstations USB 3.0 supported by separate chip.

Old thread but it refers to my current question.

I would like to buy a docking station for my Elitebook 8540w. After reading this threat there seems to be no need for buying a model from 2012.

Am I guessing right that my 8540w won't support USB3.0 on the 2012 docking stations A7E32AA and A7E34AA?

    Thanks.
