    Does the HP EliteBook 8540w Series Bios support
    AES Drive encryption features with BDE or FDE drives like

    Hitachi Travelstar BDE 7K500 500GB, SATA II (HTS725050A9A361)
    Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.4 500GB, SATA II (ST9500327AS) ?

    Greetings
    David

    I was lucky to get my hands on a Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.4 500GB, SATA II (ST9500327AS) drive. I replaced the built in Hitachi 7K500-500 HTS725050A9A364 with it. Turned on DriveProtect in the bios settings and voila now the HP EliteBook 8540w runs with hardware AES encryption. To double check i now put the drive in an external usb-3 case. I wasn´t able to recover any data
    using several low level tools.

    Greetings

    David
