I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the process of removing crapware from hp machines. I just got a probook4530 laptop and from what I understand, it's loaded with a ton of bloatware. If anyone has been through the removal process or has any suggestions they could throw my way I'd love to hear them.
Thanks very much.

1- Go to Configuration panel --> Programs and features --> select the programs to remove and click uninstall. After removing all unwanted programs use CCleaner and Defraggler to clean and tide up your harddrive. Both programs are freeware. Just search for them on google.
2- Get a Windows installation DVD (non OEM version), and re-install windows with the COA key in your laptop. This might require re-installing some of the drivers. -
just do a minimum image recovery, it gets rid of all the bloatware but keeps all the drivers installed and important things like HP assistant. if you do a clean windows 7 install then youll have to find all your computers drivers, download them and install them which means youll be restarting your computer like 10 times

You do not need to actually download any of the drivers or HP system software (unless you are looking for updated versions). Just copy/burn the SwSetup folder at the root of your HDD onto the backup media of your choice. C:\SwSetup. All of your drivers are there.

Thanks much. I'll probably do the minimum image if things are running slow.

I pretty much always do a fresh install of windows anytime I buy a laptop.
Not an issue of speed or anything, just an issue for me of knowing I have a clean copy from day one that is how *I* want it to be nothing extra or less.
There are some good guides for installing a fresh copy even f you don't have a dvd drive on your comp. -
i did a minimum image recovery right after getting mine and was very pleased with the results. all bloatware gone except for the hp programs which may or may not be bloatware depending on your personal definitions of such but yeah. very nice cleanup, and much less hassle than a full clean install

I tried the minimal image myself. Not bad. All the drivers were in place and I found that the HP Recovery Manager was present so adding specific OEM apps was a breeze. Didn't care to see that PowerDVD and YouCam were part of the "minimal" image though. Just never been a big fan of CyberLink is all.

I'm same as Snow Fox...you gotta install a fresh copy of windows.
