    Hi all.

I'm trying to get right laptop for Microsoft BI Demo virtual machines on Hyper-V, but i found a lot of problems reported on win2008r2+hyper-v and core ix with drivers - BSOD etc.

The virtual machines already loaded with SQL Server 2008r2 BI, Sharepoint etc. I need laptop only for demonstrations, 8GB of RAM required.

I'm thinking to buy HP4320 core i3, but overall quality is not good for me.
I'm thinking to spend more money on HP Elitebook 8440p or 8540p - but there is also problems running win2008r2+hyper-v on it...

Also in 8540p review i found that in encoding test with Nvidia NVS3100 Cuda usage it done in 70sec, and Sony with Core i5 480m with integrated Intel graphics done in 20sec, so i think that there must be some bugs in expensive HP...

Overall - i need laptop that will be overall convenient like 8440p, and works fine with 2008r2+hyper-v+8GB RAM.

well i can't vouch for the other machines, but i am running 2008R2 with no issues on the 8740w.

i have no issues whatsoever on it either

if you need anything answered, don't hesitate to ask!

I've got info that some people disable turbo boost drivers to get Hyper-V worked, so maybe it will be simple to buy HP ProBook 4320 Core i3-370m?

The HP 8740w is too big, and as specifications shows - it uses Chipset
Mobile IntelĀ® QM57 Express - the same like HP 8440p and 8540p, so i think it must works the same like 8740

HP 8440p is the most portable, but will it works fine guaranteed, or maybe ProBook 4320 will be the best....

i didn't need to on mine, but it needed to be tweaked in the bios.

we do have AMT and a few other Intel 'antitheft' things in the bios, but i'm not sure if it is standard across the range.

There is the 8540w which is similar to the machine i have. but it all depends on your needs.

i know not about the i3, i only have had experience with the i5 and i7 chips and their chipsets, so i can't help there.

but hyper-v runs very nice as a role on these laptops, i have it enabled on my server os

i use 2008r2 primarily as it is less bunked with crap than windows 7 so my workflow on video/3d work is faster.

    i3's don't have VT-d as a standard feature. i5-5xx+ has VT-d.

but some people sad that there is no heavy IO on laptops with demos, the VT-D is good for servers with real workload
but a lot of people says that all depends on the exact configuration - some systems may not work fine with hyper-v, so maybe i'll return few laptops and buy another trying to find right laptop
