I plan to purchase an EliteBook 8540w with FHD DreamColor 2.

If I were in the US, I could have completed my online order process in 5 minutes. But I am at a complete loss at how to place my order in Canada. The HP Canada website is a joke. The persons I talked to on the phone have no idea what kind of product I was referring to. The local resellers only carry "more popular" models and are not willing to special-order anything.

Your advice will be most appreciated.

    I understand your pain, Bro.
You can do what I did with my 8740w:

    1) email a US rep asking for a decent discount on your config (25-28% OFF is not uncommon)

    2) Choose Wire Transfer as a payment method

    3) If you don't have relatives/friends in the US that could accept the notebook and forward it to Canada, - choose from a variety of forwarding services (ex. myus.com). They can give you a temp real address to receive the package and forward it to Canada. You will need that address when placing the order.

4)When forwarding, use the overnight/priority/expedited shipping that includes the brokerage fees.

    * Expect you total forwarding costs to be ~ 300$ (shipping + brokerage + customs fees)

** Don't forget to upgrade the warranty to the Travel Pack (+40$) ;)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, a bit late I know, but

@Kaso - did everything work out for you? I did the same (thanks to Aikimox) around the same time as you (early Dec.)

I actually did find one person in 3 different departments (sales, who sent me to CS, who sent me to the repair department, who wondered how in the world they could help me buy a laptop, who referred me back to Sales, or perhaps CDW) who actually had heard of the DC2 screen in HP Canada

@Pongo - I actually contacted CDW, but HP told them the DC2 requires a custom order, which requires a minimum quantity of 50. I, of course, only wanted 1... :)

^^ Yeah, nobody is gonna bother bringing DC2 systems to Canada, most ppl (including HP reps and techs) don't even know what DC2 is ;)

Luckily, getting one from the US is not too difficult, and not too expensive either.

I was sure at that time I had seen the DC spec in one of their expensive ATI carded builds, must have been wrong.

I think CDW.com (the US counterpart) had the XT907 model with the DC option.
