    Hi Guys,

I need your help urgently, I have a laptop EliteBook 8470p with Windows 7 on it. The problem is when I try to boot any system from the CD drive or USB I can't access the HD data at all, I tried booting Ubuntu & Hiren's Boot CD, in both cases they boot perfectly but they just don't mount the partitions even though both partitions I have show up!!

Please note that the Windows 7 installed boots perfectly and reads both partitions, so the problem is "trying to access the data from outside"!

Is there some sort of encryption or an option on the BIOS which protects the data on the HD from being accessed from a bootable system?!

    Please help.

    Thanks.

Is your HDD properly formatted with partition table? Or is it the Windows GPT thing?
Have you tried setting the BIOS to IDE mode instead of SATA or even RAID?

I have a similar problem with an 8570w which has SSD caching. No way to access the HDD or even boot a Linux system without heavy reconfiguring the BIOS.
