    Hey there,
I'm running Windows 7 home, 64 bit on a Compaq 515 laptop. Just recently, my laptop won't come out of hibernation unless I'm plugged into AC power, completely dead on battery. Strange. I think it has something to do with the fn shift key and the lock symbol on the f6 key (I was messing with them a few days ago), not really sure. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or could direct me where on the web I could find an answer. Thanks in advance. I don't know what I would do with helpful forums like this one... :)

well i'm going back a while, as i've not used a compaq machine for some time.

If I recall, the FN+F6 combo just locked the computer, as ctrl+alt+del then selecting "lock this computer" does. Hibernate not working on battery is a different issue, but as it's a recent thing i can only suggest it's a new device which is preventing the system waking up.

I am short of time, but will direct you to a HP page which should give you some other advice. Let me know if you have resolved it, and what it was, so others can find the solution.

    Thanks

Here is a list of the FN + F key and what they do, just for your reference:

FN + F 1 Opens help and support.
    FN + F 2 Serves as a printer shortcut.
    FN + F 3 Opens your homepage.
    FN + F 4 Switches monitors/Presentation Mode/Turns off LCD for external Monitor
    FN + F 5 Should be standy
    FN + F 6 Lock your computer
    FN + F 7 Screen Brightness Down
    FN + F 8 Screen Brightness Up
FN + F 9 Play / Pause In Windows Media Player
    FN + F 10 Stop Media Playback
    FN + F 11 Next Track
    FN + F 12 Previous Track

Note, not all of these will be available to you on your machine, but thats the generic list from the old Compaq manual I have floating about.

    Hope you get it solved!

Thanks Siorah, I just switched to using sleep instead of hibernate. I think I just shook my laptop the other night real bad and something went haywire. I used Restore, reset the CMOS, and uninstalled a few programs that were quirky. Thanks for responding and clearing up the fn keys.

no problem, just remember sleep does use battery so don't leave it on for tooo long.

But take a read of the link there when you have time, it's quite informative.
