Can anyone confirm or deny that DDR3 works in a 8510W/8510P?
The HP spec is DDR2/553. Right now DDR3 is 60 percent of the price of DDR2 in the 8GB kit.
The particular kit is:
Mushkin Essentials 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1066MHz CL7 SODIMM

It won't even fit into the slot = doesn't work. In addition, I think chipset didn't support more than 4GB but I might be wrong.

Thank you both for answering, and you are indeed correct.
Now the question becomes, what is the effect on battery life.
The only specs I have found are for Kingston ValueRam DDR2 @667
1 GB module = 1.125 watt
2 GB module = 1.584 watt
So, at:
2GB, 1.125 x 2 = 2.250 watt
4GB, 1.584 x 2 = 3.168 watt
They do not list a spec sheet for the 4GB module, but an extrapolation:
8GB, 1.584 + (1.584-1.125) x 2 = 2.502 x 2 = 5.004 watt
Is that any where near realistic?
Seems like it might be a bad idea to max out memory if the notebook is idling at 405MB on Windows Server 2K3/x64 with SQL, IIS, IE6, and Java JVM running right now.
Maybe 4GB is a better idea. Much cheaper too. But, as I am only going to do this once, and before DDR2 prices go up ... -
