As I understand it, the 8440p is supposed to be a generation upgrade to the 6930p. Both have docking station options.

What i would like to know is: Will a docking station from a 6930p work on the 8440p, or did they finally change that?

    It hasn't been changed.

Some features may not be available, like support for multiple monitors with old laptop and new dock combination. Since your plan is the other way, I'm pretty sure 8440p would support anything that old dock has to offer :)

The dock from a 6930p or any prior will NOT work on the 8440p models
You will need to purchase a new dock, they also now use a 90 watt power adapter
