The EN489AA is the HP Advanced Docking station. It does have the MultiBay II, which can accept either optical drives or hard drives (assuming you have the hard drive caddy for the MultiBay II). I don't know if it would take SATA or PATA drives, though.

The EN489 is listed as compatible with a 6910P. Looking at the 6910P's schematic there are no SATA or PATA lines going to the docking connector. Meaning then it's USB connected and the generation of gear involved would mean it's likely be a PATA multibayII connector on the dock. Internally the dock must have a PATA-to-USB bridge.
In terms adding a HDD via the dock you'd be better off just attaching a HDD in a USB enclosure via it's USB port. It would eliminate an extra hop via the bridge. Even more so when you consider attaching a SATA drive via that multibayII PATA connector would add an additional SATA-to-PATA bridge. So it would be SATA-to-PATA-to-USB. A SATA USB enclosure has it's own SATA-to-USB bridge so would be simpler and probably give you better performance. -
thanks , guess I'll leave it ,
Does the advanced dock EN 489 AA take sata or pata
