Does this laptop has a sound card ?

HP Compaq nc6320 Business Notebook PC specifications - HP Products and Services Products

Originally XP installed later Vista is installed , possibly missing driver.

I only hear sound when I connect external speakers.

Skype says no sound card present, I can see a mic on the laptop but people can't hear me.

When I go to control panel/sound , I can see that the mic is not present/activated.

What could be wrong ?

 

I do think you didn't install the drivers for the sound correctly. In terms of the laptop having a sound card, it actually does have a dedicated sound card. It is more like it has an integrated sound chip that is soldered and connected to the system board's overall chipset.

However, I think you need to find the Vista version of your sound drivers, which there should be.

That might work, although I am very sketchy of third-party driver sites. Also most sound drivers also take care of the microphone so yes, assuming this driver is legitimate, then the microphone should be also taken care of.
