Do we have a definitive answer if the new ZBook Dreamcolor 3 screens are 30-bit screens, i.e. 30 bits per pixel = 1 billion colors?

It's 8bit and not RGB LED. Might be GB-r LED, but still - narrower gamut + banding... shame for the DreamColor brand. Yes, I do realize that the first ever DC notebook (8730w) has 8bit TN, but it is RGB LED - has better gamut. So still better than the 4K ones. That's one of the reasons why I'm so frustrated - I thought that we are supposed to upgrade, not downgrade. Another reason - you can find this panel elsewhere. DELL had the decency to drop the PremierColor branding from the 4K options (same panels as far as I know and not exclusive to these two (HP and DELL, like it was the case with the 16:9 FullHD 10bit panels) either).

It's such a disappointment but do we have an official statement from HP?

There was, but I can't find it. @Padraig O Cuinn reached them and they said 8bit, no further information about the back-light was given. Pretty certain that it is the same Sharp panel that's used everywhere else as either Sharp 4K, or IGZO 3840x2160, or variation from these. Too bad, I really hoped that they'll push the limits, as they did before. After all HDR and Rec.2020 are around the corner and the specs for 4K (UHD) requires Rec.2020 coverage, so I don't know why they skimped on the gamut on a 4K "DreamColor" panel.

No, it's not. This is how the panel specs usually go ( LP171WU8-SLB1):

    Panel Size : 17.1 inch
    Dot Resolution : 1920(RGB)×1200 (WUXGA)
Pixel Configuration : RGB Vertical Stripe
    Pixel Density : 132 PPI
    Aspect Ratio : 16:10 (H:V)
    and etc.

Lamp Position : Edge light type [Front view positon]
    Lamp Type : RGB LED
    and etc.

So, if you arrange properly the response you got, this would be the end result:

    Dimensions (W x H) 15.0 x 8.5 in (38.2 x 21.5 cm)
    Weight 620g max
Diagonal Size 17.3 in (43.9 cm)
    Surface Treatment Anti-glare
    Contrast Ratio 1000:1 (typical)
    Refresh Rate 60 Hz
    Brightness 300 nit typical
    Pixel Resolution Format 3840 x 2160
    Configuration RGB Stripe
    Backlight LED
    PPI 254
    Viewing Angle 85/85/85/85 (Left/Right/Down/Up) (typical)

    Zbook 17 G3 and it has: Desktop Color Depth = 32bit & Output Color Depth = 8bits/picture.

I think that it is clear that the "RGB Stripe" is about the pixel configuration.

It also says "Pixel Configuration : RGB Vertical Stripe". By the way, these are the specs of 8740w's DreamColor.

It's just a shame that the dream color panels have 8 bits of color per channel. For me personally as I work with colors, just this fact alone makes the purchase of HP workstation inappropriate. As well as and Dell Precision. Why in so serious and expencive workstation "dream color" equip with 8 bit ??
