On my 8570w the Dreamcolor screen looks like it's glossy but with a little anti-glare. I thought it's supposed to be matte. Is that the way everyones Dreamcolor screen looks like?

If you mean the small grain like small crystals that you can see (especially on a white background) then that's the anti-glare coating. And AFAIK all Elitebooks have matte display.

I think you are talking about a different thing. The matte surface on the display is called an anti-glare surface. The shimmering effect you see often in when the display is white is an effect of the surface inside the display which is coated in order to spread the light as efficiently as possible. I don't know what this surface is called, but the effect is often called the shimmering effect.

The 8560w was known for having this effect.

Yes I didn't word my post quite well :(. Maybe this link helps (the OP aswell):
    TFT Central

And also if you scroll down to the comparison of TN and IPS screens and the AG coating used and how it's effects.

My desktop monitor is a ZR24w which does have a slightly aggressive AG coating but I don't mind, it's hard to describe it, to me it looks like a bit textured.

Well you do get some reflection on the 8560w (I have the normal TN panel) but that is to be expected as you can't make the screen completely matte and 100% reflection free ;)
