    Hi,

I've just snapped up one of these quite old laptops from work for £100 and the battery is a bit cack, so need to get that replaced asap.

I found some "3rd party" batteries on eBay... i.e. non-HP ones such as... Battery for HP EliteBook 8530w 493976-001 | eBay

what are the thoughts on them... are they safe is my main query!!

    cheers

the 3rd party batteries tend to be thicker than the oem batteries. They are not flush with the bottom of the laptop, but it still sits on the rubber feet. The problem comes when you try and use an extended battery (slab or the u-shaped one), which won't fit. You may also have a little trouble with a docking station, but it still works.
